As if the Halo ODST crossover for Helldivers 2 wasn't enough, now we're actually going underground too on Terminid Hive Worlds. Now I'm really excited and will absolutely have to get some hours back into this, which was a struggle before since Dune: Awakening practically took over my life for a while.

These Hive Worlds have been terraformed by the Terminids, with vast cave networks we'll need to dive into. And, since you're underground, no Super Destroyer to help you. This is all about the Gloom, the thick fog that covers the Hive Worlds which has also mutated the Terminids so there will be some new threats too.

Some new types of missions will come with the update too like escorting a mobile oil rig, which sounds just a little like Deep Rock Galactic. There will also be another new Premium Warbond with a bunch of new gear to unlock.

That entire video is immensely cool. Bit of a shame that they've bumped the ODST Warbond up 50% in price, but there is a fair bit of content in it. Not sure if I'll pick it up (never played Halo), but it might be worth it for the SMG alone, since I play a lot of ballistic shield, which forces a one-handed weapon.

But the caves! They look amazing. And I love that since you can't see your super-destroyer when you're in there, you can't call down any strategems without finding a section of the cave that is open to the sky!

Graphics look like complete garbage though emoji Looks like Halo, Darksiders, made with Unreal Engine 2 without even using prebaked shadows emoji

P.S. The tavern guy is gold material too emoji

Suspect you need to check your internet, or YouTube settings or something. HD2 is one of the more beautiful games you can play today.

Yeah, no emoji

But HD2 looks good in motion from the perspective of the player.
This trailer, however, zoomed in on all kinds of stuff you wouldn't normally see up close: Low poly digging effects, low poly particle effects, etc.
It's like they turned the shading/texture/etc. levels down for the trailer.

0:19-0:24, 0:27, this looks like Darksiders 1, there are no shadows at all. In all outside areas shown in the trailer as well, all areas look extremely bland.

From what I've seen in general this game has no dynamic shadows at all, it's all prebaked tech of 1998 with 1 global illumination source (that sometimes does not even seem to work), and apparently they don't even use granny tech of simple blob shadows underneath the characters, it looks like they are on a different (higher) level from the ground -if the feet are not inside geometry as in 95% of all the time-. Urban areas (cities) look even worse from what I remember, blocky and flat as hell, cars and lighting poles not casting shadows, they don't even have Ambient Occlusion to provide some fake illusion. Red Faction 2 level.

They are console developers and players, I get it, things like that don't matter a lot.

Anyone complaining about how HellDivers 2 looks, maybe just hasn't played it. The graphics are genuinely stunning. Perhaps it's how seamlessly the physics and ragdolling works along with the environments, to pull the curtain over the simpler elements, but there's something about wading through fire on a distant planet, smoke floating through the distant mountains, as the sun goes down and you toggle on the gun's flashlight... you won't get this atmosphere in any other game. The sound design too is incredible.
