The TRX project that brings an open-source reimplementation of Tomb Raider 1 and Tomb Raider 2 has big new releases out now. It's split into two with TR1X for Tomb Raider I and TR2X for Tomb Raider 2 but they share a lot of the changes.

Amazing project to preserve more classic games and give them a fresh life, even with official modern ports it's nice to see open source still. You will need to official classic games for the data files to play with TRX which you can grab from GOG and Steam.

The update for Tomb Raider 2 is especially big on graphics rendering changes bringing options for round shadows, skyboxes, brightness, anisotropy and vertical sync along with other general visual improvements. There's also upgrades to photo mode, along with additions to gameplay mechanics like an option to allow Lara to jump up or back when hanging from a ledge.

You can see their overview videos on each update below:

They are making an incredible work.

Very cool. I just wish they would (at least make it possible to) change the controls. They were horrible for keyboard and mouse. Very stupid inventory management.

"Right! Let's go adventuring!" to quote Lara, when you properly setup your sound card in the original.
