Full Circle / EA confirm again that skate. will not support Linux, Steam Deck or macOS

skate. from developer Full Circle and Electronic Arts (EA) is about to enter Early Access, and due to the anti-cheat there's no support for Linux / Steam Deck. And macOS is out too.

This shouldn't be surprising news to regular GamingOnLinux readers as we covered this back in July, since this skating game is using the kernel-level EA Javelin anticheat. One of those anti-cheat systems that likely sends a shiver down the spine of anyone gaming on Linux PCs, Steam Deck or other handhelds running things like Bazzite.

In a fresh announcement on Steam with the specifications, they confirmed again:

  • MacOS, Linux are not supported.
  • While skate. will be Steam Native, Steam Deck will not be supported.

By "Steam Native", they mean it doesn't additionally force the EA app.

Don't expect it to ever be supported either, not at least until the day Linux as a platform grows to a point where EA can't ignore it by blocking it like they also do for Apex Legends, Battlefield and more.

See more about anti-cheat compatibility on our dedicated page. And be sure to follow the anti-cheat article tag.

For skating games that do work you can try the likes of Session: Skate Sim and Skater XL.

So I confirm again that I'll skip this game emoji

which is why we should support indie devs more. Maybe we should come out with a campaign called 'indie alternatives' which it's aim is to replace all the non compatible AAA titles with Linux/steamOS comparable versions, only better, cheaper, more optimised and not riddled with micro transactions.

I take my purchases very seriously. I would like to clarify that I will [still] not be supporting EA financially for the foreseeable future.

Sincerely,
My $50

The game is built around a premium store anyways, I already tried it because play testers have a couple of weeks of access before everyone else, it's a game completely built around the premium store. Like Liam said, Session and Skater XL are way better options.

Looks like EA wants to live the SimCity fiasco over and over again...

Can't wait to see them go bankrupt. Unfortunately, too many people are still buying their garbage. Despite they haven't made a great AAA game in decades. Gosh, they're already drooling for BF6 as if there wouldn't be 100 games just like it already out there.

I have the whole of EA on my ignore list. So I won't see this one anyway.

I'm enjoying Session: Skate anyway. They're a few years too late to jump on this bandwagon.
