Could be a fun twist for the genre. Steel Knight's ARMIS takes the ideas of Vampire Survivors with the upgrade system and tweaks it to be like a mecha anime.
It has a number of twists to help set it apart from all the other survivor-likes, and it could be one to watch. There's a demo available to try right now that works perfectly with Proton on Desktop Linux and it's set for release on October 8th.
While it has the traditional survivor-like gameplay of tackling enemy hordes, auto firing weapons, collecting orbs and selecting upgrades constantly when you level up - what sets it apart is the overall structure of it.
Since it's inspired by classic mecha anime, it has a story to progress through various chapters. With all sorts of pilot and enemy chatter going on during the missions. That, and the gameplay will switch between you flying around destroying enemies in a basic area map into a vertical shoot 'em up mode, so it keeps things feeling quite fresh.
They also have a new gameplay trailer below:

The only part of it that I didn't particularly like, was the constant chatter for the story during the battles. The battles are pretty hectic, and you simply don't get time to read what they're saying (the audio is in Japanese). If they had tweaked that to be more between battles, it would have worked a lot better. At least, until half way through just the first mission, becoming so powerful I could just sit still and then I could read all the chatter. Seems they have some balancing to do as it does get quite easy.
Overall it feels like a really unique blend of ideas so give it a shot and see what you think in the demo.
