Hollow Knight: Silksong is clearly a smash-hit, reaching an incredible player milestone quickly after release and Team Cherry are readying a first update.

The game managed to hit an all-time high of 587,150 concurrent players only 2 days after release (SteamDB). Also fun to see is that the original Hollow Knight also hit an all-time high of 95,655 concurrent players on September 7th, years after the release. So the hype and clear success of Silksong is no doubt causing a sales surge still for the original.

As for the upcoming Silksong patch, it's currently in a public Beta you can try. Here's the current details on what's in it for the patch release next week (sometime midweek according to their post):

- Fixed situation where players could remain cloakless after Slab escape sequence.
- Fixed wish Infestation Operation often not being completable during the late game.
- Fixed wish Beast in the Bells not being completable when Bell Beast is summoned at the Bilewater Bellway during the late game.
- Fixed getting stuck floating after down-bouncing on certain projectiles.
- Fixed courier deliveries sometimes being inaccessible in the late game.
- Fixed craft bind behaving incorrectly when in memories.
- Fixed Lace tool deflect soft-lock at start of battle in Deep Docks.
- Fixed Silk Snippers in Chapel of the Reaper sometimes getting stuck out of bounds.
- Fixed Claw Mirrors leaving Hornet inverted if taking damage during a specific moment while binding.
- Fixed Snitch Pick not giving rosaries and shell shards as intended.
- Removed float override input (down + jump, after player has Faydown Cloak).
- Slight difficulty reduction in early game bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter.
- Reduction in damage from Sandcarvers.
- Slight increase in pea pod collider scale.
- Slight reduction in mid-game Bellway and Bell Bench prices.
- Slight increase in rosary rewards from relics and psalm cylinders.
- Increase in rosary rewards for courier deliveries.
- Various additional fixes and tweaks.

They've confirmed a second patch is already in progress with more fixes. Hopefully some controller improvements for the Linux version will come with it, which has been a bit problematic for some players.

For those of you diving into it - do share your experiences with Hollow Knight: Silksong in the comments.

Suffice it to say I'm pretty annoyed about the controller issues and I'm not even going to attempt to play it again until they patch it.

Otherwise, it's pretty underwhelming. I personally *hate* when games are stingy with their map and this game brings back all the same annoyances from HK on that front. There is at least one very obnoxious movement mechanic (diagonally dashing into the red pads). I expect it will be an ok game overall, but to me, it definitely isn't some big deal and probably not something I'll play more than once.

I like Blasphemous and 9 Sols both *way* more than I like either of the HK games.

- Slight difficulty reduction in early game bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter.

Hah. I've gotten better, but am still not past Sister Splinter, maybe I'll give it a few more tries before this releases.

(OTOH I've had no trouble with the rosary economy, exploring and threading beads make rosaries more pleasant than HK geo for me personally)

Somehow I beat Sister Splinter easily today, despite having trouble with it last night. emoji

The controller issues on Native were pretty damn annoying, so annoying that once I realised its a bug and the game is not actually supposed to play like this, I just switched to Proton, and frankly, this is just what I'm going to do for all games going forward. Just can't be bothered with these weird issues when Proton works perfectly.

What are the controller problems on Linux? I played on launch day and didn't notice anything wrong.

As far as I heard (not that far), it was limited to 8bitdo controllers. At least, I'm not having issues with my ancient xb360 controller.

yeah agree- what are the controller issues? I'm playing on linux in our living room htpc machine with a 8bitdo controller and haven't had any problems (that I know of?) ...?

anyway - I'm glad to see the difficulty reduction! I'm just so bad at these games, but love playing them, making it so I don't have to try every boss 100x times is a welcome change.

I hope that the controller issue fix extends to keyboards too. It is so damn annoying having Hornet being stuck running in one direction, or not moving at all when I told her to.
