Balatro, much like Vampire Survivors, has created a bit of an indie trend and now the classic card game snap has been given the Balatro treatment in Replicat.

There's a demo available, built with Unity it has Native Linux support with a release currently planned for November 19th. I've given the demo a run through and think they genuinely have a great idea here. The classic card-matching memory game, but tweaked for modern generations to add a little more flavour. Since it's now a roguelike deck-builder, you get to acquire all sorts of special cards to bend and break the game resulting in some crazy combos.

Much like the inspiration, you go through rounds to build up a score and you need to keep hitting a higher score to continue on. Here it's definitely challenging, especially because my short-term memory is apparently awful. During your run you earn money to spend on new cards in the shop to add to your deck like cards that give you bonus moves or matching any other card. You also get to buy up special curios which allow you to tweak your whole run with bonuses like multiplying your score or money.

With all the ways you can change your run, it's not entirely a memory game like snap. Since you can acquire tools to reveal extra cards, keep them flipped so you can see them instead of them flipping back when you mismatch and even ways to force mismatches to work. There's a lot of ways to mess with it in your favour. Some cards will also auto-reveal their match, if you're lucky enough to pick them.

My only concern is time. There's so many games releasing, this might suck a lot away from me because the demo is quite delicious.
