Vice: Magic City Mayhem is a supremely odd blend but it looks like it works. A Zelda-like with some GTA elements thrown in because why not.
More about it: Vice: Magic City Mayhem is a top-down 8-bit retro action/adventure game inspired by Zelda with a GTA: Vice City theme. You play as Dutch, one of Magic City’s top enforcers on a quest to save your one true love, Sophie. Make your way through bustling nightclubs, scenic beaches, and raptor-infested yachts to defeat 8 epic bosses and uncover the secrets of Magic City and save your one true love. At least it's a retro Zelda-like that's aiming to be just a bit different.

There's a demo available on the Steam page (works with Proton 9) and they have a crowdfunding campaign going on right now. The Kickstarter for it lasts until October 30th with their team hoping to hit at least $10,000. At time of writing it has just about $7,000 pledged. It's only a small goal, as the game is about 80% complete according to the developer.
Game Highlights:
- Explore & Discover: Secrets, treasures, and lore across six unique environments.
- Challenging Dungeons: Solve intricate puzzles and traps in eight distinct dungeons.
- Dynamic Combat: Use a katana, magical items, and ranged weapons to defeat enemies.
- Epic Boss Battles: Confront eight unique district rulers with bold personalities.
- Retro Vibes: 80s-inspired visuals and a chiptune soundtrack for a nostalgic feel.
the old-school top-down style is definitely appealing and the aesthetic is absolutely trying to capture the vibes of the time. But is there a story and gameplay in the title or is it a trip through nostalgia? I don't mind either, I just think it's important to understand the features.
