Creator of the popular free and open source video game library manager Playnite has a positive update on a Linux version, with plans for it during 2026.
Back in February, GamingOnLinux covered the latest update from the creator on their plans for it, where they noted "To sum this up, Linux version is definitely something I plan to work on in future, it's just going to happen later than originally planned.".
Seems this may come just a bit sooner than expected, as per the latest update from the developer:
"2025 update 2
I'm planning to move to Linux in 2026 after P11 is done, and since Playnite is my personal blocker for the move, I will try to make some Linux version in 2026. Definitely not fully featured version on parity with Windows version of P11, and probably desktop mode only, but something daily drivable with Linux specific features (Wine/Proton integration for example).
If that goes well, I'll start looking into P11 Avalonia porting proper say I mentioned in previous update."

Hopefully their Linux move and work on Playnite for Linux go well. See more about Playnite on their website.

Welcome to the neighborhood!
Playnite on Linux would be great since there's probably going to be more users that move from Windows to Linux that would like to have this program available because of the many features that they use on it.
I was in that boat when I first switched to linux. It was disappointing to not have access to Playnite anymore so this is great news. I'm curious how it'll work with Heroic, it'd be nice if Heroic didn't have to open to launch a game.

Not sure if there is enough difference to be worth the effort instead of joining up with the existing projects.
For now big picture mode on steam does a good job of thst for me, and I use boilR to add my heroic/lutris games onto steam, if you add your steamgrid api key it will even sort all the artwork out
I do wish valve would add ambient background music to big picture and steamOS. They could even have a selection of music on the points store!
