NTSYNC has been available in the Linux kernel for a while, but it's taking distributions a while to actually use it - Fedora Linux 44 will make it easier.

What is NTSYNC? Arriving with Linux kernel 6.14 the aim of it was mainly to help accuracy and performance for NT synchronization primitives when translating between Windows apps / games and Linux with Proton / Wine. As an eventual full and better replacement for the likes of esync and fsync. For plain Wine, it will be quite a nice boost - but Proton won't see too much of a difference in most things.

A new change proposal has now been accepted for Fedora Linux 44 that will enable it when it detects specific packages being used - notably Wine and Steam (for Proton). NTSync has been available in Wine since version 10.16.

Hopefully this will give gamers on Fedora a better overall experience with the likes of Wine.

Uh, I compile my kernel myself, and I missed this until now.
 make; make modules_install; make install
