Framework Computer BV have announced a nice big expansion of their sponsorship program with many open source events and Linux distributions benefiting from it.
In a blog post originally posted October 14th, they detailed a few different events they were sponsoring along with projects like GNOME and LVFS. In an update to the post from December 3rd, they've detailed a whole lot more that have been receiving handouts bringing the total Framework has put out during 2025 to over $225,000.
As per the post this is the current list of who Framework are sponsoring in open source land:
It's nice to see another company put their money where their mouth is. Lots of companies talk about openness and the like, but many don't bother to support all the projects they make use of. For Framework, it seems perfectly fitting for them to get on board with more open source with the nature of their modular open hardware.
But they try.
And mostly succeed.
I might just be blinkered there though. I suspect Gnome still has a huge mindshare, probably as a combined result over decades of Ubuntu and Fedora.
Edit: Just read this forum post and no, I don't think it's hard to be upset about the Hyprland and Omarchy sponsorships at all now. JFC, Framework. WTF. Stop.

Unfortunately they lost quite some people that now thinks that framework is fine with sponsoring fascists :/
@numerfolt do what now? Can you link me to some info? Oh it's the hyprland/omarchy toxic communities. I have never been there or spent any time with either, so I have no personal experience but from what I've read: they can F right off and I know for sure I won't be using either ever.

Quoting: NumerfoltUnfortunately they lost quite some people that now thinks that framework is fine with sponsoring fascists :/Some people are generally not missed after they are "lost".
Those who will call others all kinds of names for having a differing opinion from theirs, even the most lukewarm of differences (such as "maybe don't try to push a political ideology through entirely unrelated software?"), are very high on that list of "won't be missed".
In the end, Framework seems to be doing just fine, so all that is just the usual tempest in a teapot social media brainrot.

Quoting: scaineIt's hard to be upset at the Hyprland donations, I suppose, in the face of the all the good they're additionally doling out on a monthly basis. Still wish they'd drop Gnome for KDE though (and by extension, also drop Hyprland), as this feels like the direction of travel these days.KDE is in there, but they support their conference rather than just a KDE line item.

But GNOME has a lot more than just mind share. It's just not as popular with gamers right now.
Quoting: JarmerThis is so great to see!Oh sorry, didnt see your mention...

There's actually three things to that:
Hyprland. Actually I dug into hyprland a bit more: It was toxic, that's true. But since ~1-2 years they are actively combating harassment and the toxicity. The tone may still be a bit rough, but not toxic anymore (from what I could find out).
Which is why I have no problem with them sponsoring hyprland.
Omarchy is a different thing, they gave the developer a laptop and sponsored an event he started. I really dont like DHH and it seems like he's no nice person, but I dont mind.
The last thing is, that a moderator made it clear, that it's not allowed to call other people in their forums a nazi. This resulted in LOTS of people being like "They want to protect nazis!!!". But at the same time it's also forbidden to behave like a nazi would. And it's still allowed to call out public figures because of nazi-like behaviour. And quite some people got banned because of transphobic or racist comments, so their moderation is working quite well.
But for quite some people this is not a reasonable course of action but just framework protecting nazis.
I cant agree with that.
Hope that makes sense?
