Devolver Digital announced that Quarantine Zone: The Last Check from Brigada Games is now set for release on January 12, 2026. I initially stayed away from this one, as the developer was originally using some generative AI content for voice overs with the earlier demos, which has thankfully now been removed.
What is it? Quarantine Zone: The Last Check puts you in charge of a critical checkpoint during a zombie outbreak. Armed with advanced screening tools and your own instincts, you must decide who gets through and who stays behind. One wrong choice could let the infection slip past your post. But holding the line is only the beginning. You’ll need to manage scarce resources, reinforce defenses, and keep your camp alive as chaos intensifies with each passing day.

For me personally, with this one, the subtext (based on the embedded trailer) is too authoritarian - not rules-based, abuse of power part of the job, and the light-hearted presentation of it all is a tad repulsive.
But that is my taste, we may well disagree in our likes. Discussion about perceived text and subtext very welcome.

It could be played basically straight, and implicitly authoritarian. Or, it could be satirical, along the lines of a Starship Troopers kind of thing, but played a bit quieter.
