Minecraft has a new testing build out that ups the cute factor by a lot, with an overhaul of various baby mobs and you get pet nametags now too.

Previously, baby mobs were just smaller versions of the adults. That's all going to change, with a whole lot more variety to the baby mobs in Minecraft. They've been given unique textures and models to properly set them apart, and they look pretty great. They sound different too, as they've also got new audio hooked up for the baby mobs too. You'll even get to craft nametags so you know who is who.

This is going to make certain types of farms seem a whole lot more evil.

The main highlights:

Changes

  • Name Tags are now craftable and can be crafted with 1 Paper and 1 of any Metal Nugget
  • Zombie Horses no longer panic when hurt
  • Tweaked default JVM options
  • Added new baby sounds for Wolf, Cat and Pig
  • Revamped the visuals of several baby mobs
  • The programmer art rabbit textures have been removed following the re-modelling of the rabbit

Baby Mobs

  • Updated the models and textures of the following baby mobs:
    • Cow
    • Sheep
    • Pig
    • Cat
    • Ocelot
    • Mooshroom
    • Wolf
    • Chicken
      • Tweaked the bounding box to align with the new model
    • Rabbit
      • Both adult and baby Rabbits also received new animations
      • Tweaked the bounding box to align with the new model
  • Armor on baby Wolves and saddles on baby Pigs will no longer render

To be clear, you could already use name tags to name animals, but you could only acquire name tags (fishing, loot or trading). It's being able to craft the name tags yourself that's new.

With the bounding box changes do automated cooked chicken contraptions work anymore, I wonder. I'm curious if it didn't IMPROVE the rates actually.

Well, not quite – (at least) some of the babies had much bigger heads proportionally to their body size than adults did*. But this is a welcome change nonetheless. 🙂

*I don't feel like checking all of them, but it's true for chickens, cows, pigs, and sheep, at least.

Now wouldn't THAT be something? Make you feel worse while also giving you better results 😇
