Plague Inc: Evolved is a classic strategy sim that's still going strong and a new update was released to make playing it on Steam Deck even better.

What is it? A game about infecting the world. You control and evolve a deadly pathogen, and try to annihilate the entire planet. There's a mixture of different types of pathogens to try out, and some of the challenges can be quite difficult. It's an interesting one, and a game I love going back to now and then for another run.

In an update announced January 26th, the developer mentioned: "We've been working hard on improving the experience for Steam Deck players and today you can play those improvements! Lots of bug fixes, reworked glyphs and improvements to screen readability".

The changelog is short and sweet, not giving much in the way of actual detail on what was changed though:

Steam Deck
  • Vastly improved playing experience on Steam Deck.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where Saving and Loading in an Outbreak game while the "Cough Drop" mutator was active would result in the costs of traits being significantly reduced further.
  • Variety of bug fixes relating to the Steam Deck controller.

Plague Inc: Evolved is currently rated Steam Deck Verified by Valve using Proton, although it does have a Native Linux version available too.

Release Date: 18th February 2016
Platform: 🐧 Native Linux

Wow, it's consistently had 800-1500 players every month for it's (considerable) shelf life!
