The popular top-down tactical shooter RUNNING WITH RIFLES is returning with RWR 2 (RUNNING WITH RIFLES 2) just announced. There's no release date yet, and we don't know exactly what platforms will be supported.
Currently the original has a Very Positive review score on Steam from over 14,000 people, so it will be interesting to see how well a much bigger sequel does. The setting for the new game: "RWR 2 is a top-down military shooter set in a fictional Eastern Bloc-inspired country seized by the ruthless Vanguard Army. As the occupation tightens its grip, multiple factions emerge in the region, each responding to the conflict in their own way".
Seems it has quite a big focus on the campaign with solo, co-op play and a dedicated PvE mode they said is similar to the original's Invasion Mode.

Some other bits that's new for the sequel:
- RWR on launch started with 12 maps à 1km² while RWR2 comes with single world with 25 km² area with no loading screens in between.
- The campaign has a much larger variety of objectives, and advancing further in the game isn't entirely about capturing zones.
- Some buildings feature interiors now, and some walls are destructible for entrance, and most walls feature damage effects.
- Actual health is in play now along with self-healing, allowing player to spend time more surviving and less respawning.
- Rotating camera control.
- High grass and foliage help staying unnoticed, there are light sources to stay away from at night time.
- Bots and commanders have learned plenty of new tricks, e.g. chasing, driving in a convoy, retreating, looting and moving items to storages, and a whole lot of changes in combat to improve on tactics and variety. They handle new types of objectives and communicate their intent to player better. Bot navigation has been rebuilt to better fit the larger and more varied world.
- Vehicle physics have been reworked, vehicle trunks exist, using one-hand weapons while driving is possible.
- You can now build actual gapless sandbag wall lines, and bots do it too.
