After releasing the Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged back in 2024, developer Revolution are preparing Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Reforged.

They have a crowdfunding campaign up on Kickstarter, and as expected there's a lot of excitement for another classic and much loved adventure game getting upgraded. At time of writing it has reached £398,112 in funding! They plan full Native Linux support just like the previous game.

As for any use of AI generation, their statement on it:

This game has over 55,000 unique frames of animation, and is created by a team of talented classical animators who have redrawn and reanimated this game frame by frame. Adding subtle, context-sensitive characterisation and human expressions is something that AI can't do, and never will be able to do.

During the development of Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged we tried to integrate our own internal tool trained on art produced by ourselves. In the end it was a lot of work that could have frankly been spent directly on the game, so that's what we're doing this time around!

No AI, just humans ❤︎

Great to see.

No option for those that didn't get the chance to get Shadow of the Templars box edition :(

So I might just wait until it lands on Steam.
