MMO space shooter Star Conflict is shutting down

Say goodbye to another game as Star Conflict from Star Gem Inc. / Gaijin Network Ltd is going to be completely shutting down later this year. In an announcement posted on Steam the developer said it will go offline on October 10, 2026.

Why? They explained:

In recent years, it has become increasingly difficult for us to maintain and develop the game to the standard it deserves. Technical limitations, rising infrastructure costs, and a decline in the active player base have made further development impossible.

That said, we don’t want to let the game fade away slowly. It’s important to us to sincerely acknowledge the situation and give the project a proper conclusion.

We understand that this is difficult news, and that’s exactly why we’re being open with you about it.

The main key dates:

  • May 14, 2026: Registration of new accounts will be disabled
  • June 1, 2026: Monetization will be disabled
  • October 10, 2026: Complete shutdown of the game servers

The game has never really been particularly popular, with a peak online count on Steam of only 4,973 which was over 13 years ago. Over the last year it hasn't gone above 300, and over the last 3 years hasn't ever gone above 400. So, not really surprising they're finally deciding it's time.

Still, it is a shame to see all their effort just - gone. I really hope one day that preservation becomes more of a goal for all developers.

Huh. I think i played that one for a bit. It was decently fun, but i'm a rather social gamer and none of my friends stuck long with it.

Ah, I remember Star Conflict, played that a really long time ago. I liked it well enough, but didn't stick with it.

Kind of surprised it took so long with such low player counts the last years.
Played it for a while ages ago - might drop in for a last hurra then.

Free to play, but £2500 if you want all the DLC.

And here I thought Star Citizen was a disgusting cash grab.

Presumably you only buy one of the £30 ships and not, like, all of them?? Hopefully?

There aren't many high graphical fidelity, professionally developed multiplayer space sims/shooters native for Linux. This is a real loss.
