Linux is about to get a pretty deep and serious city builder courtesy of Paradox and Colossal Order named Cities Skylines. Check out the trailer and be amazed.

I loved the massive bridges over the water with lots of loops. It looks like you can be pretty creative.

Official About
Inhabit a world where you define the rules. Cities: Skylines invites you to create the city of your dreams in a sprawling landscape dominated by cloud hugging structures and jaw dropping architectural marvels.

Developed by Colossal Order, Cities: Skylines offers sprawling landscapes and maps with endless sandbox gameplay and new ways to expand your city. Key to progression is the ability to influence your city’s policy by incorporating taxation into districts. All this including the ability to mod the game to suit your play style makes this the definitive city building simulation.

Features
- City policies: Set policies to guide how the city and districts develop over the course of your playthrough.
- City districts: Personalize city districts with names of your choice for variety and personality.
- Road building and zoning
- Unlock buildings and services
- Taxation: Fine-tuning the city budget and services and setting tax rates to different residential, commercial and industrial levels and controlling what kind of areas are more likely to spawn in the zoned areas
- Public transportation: Build transport networks throughout the city with buses and metros
- Outside connections: Make industry and commercial districts flourish with new customers in the neighboring cities
- Wonders: the ultimate end-game content that the players strive towards
- Huge maps: Unlock new map tiles with unique possibilities to expand the city
- Water flow simulation: Add new challenges to water services.
- Polished visual style and core gameplay

I can't wait to start planning my dream city. Looks like it will have none of that always on DRM crap that plagued the newer Sim City too, so that's good.

Gotta love Paradox. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

A very nice game :)
There was a humblebundle Linux version, which worked flawlessly, even with steam achievements, but the game was not out on Steam for a long period of time.

Quoting: Segata SanshiroHaving a decent city builder on Linux is essential. The only other decent city builder out there (SimCity is no longer considered by anyone with a brain or dignity) is CitiesXL, but with the demise of the developers, the game never got updated and will never get ported. This looks pretty good from the trailer, hopefully it will be far better than the mess that was Cities in Motion 2.

Paradox is really a great developer. It was the first major developer to commit to releasing all games on Linux (even at the same time as the windows release) and makes the best strategy games out there, that make Civ 5 and others look like a children's game in comparison. They have been intent on taking away all my free time since I bought the first Victoria game in 2004, have probably spent thousands of hours on their games, now they're going to take away even more precious time with a x0city sim.

Like the trailer said this isn't being developed by Paradox, only published by them. The development studio is the one behind the Cities in Motion games.

Paradox has been supporting Linux gamers since the release of Crusader Kings 2. When Europa Universalis IV came out, with Windows, Mac and Linux versions the day of release, it was a wonderful sight.

Cities in Motion 1+2 are somewhat like this, although in them, it's a transportation thing, not a city building thing. I'm looking forward!

While Paradox hasn't developed all the games they release in-house, their commitment to we Linux gamers is first-rate. Yes, their Crusader Kings/Europa Universalis "grand strategy" games are deep, deeper, and deepest in their gameplay, and are considered tops among serious strategy gamers.

Linux gaming is great and becoming greater!

Even that being true, it's mostly the publisher pulling the strings on weather a platform is to be supported or not, because they're the financial background of the development studios - the publishers fund the development. So either Paradox is sure that linux gaming has a future and see a strategical reason, their ports are cheap enough so it results in a profit (so their engine and tools would have to be pretty good - don't know what City In Motion / this game use), or it's for marketing and press reasons - which I personally wouldn't underestimate.

This is exactly what´s needed on Linux along with some good racing games. I know Project Cars is confirmed, but it will probably be another 6 months before release. I hope Grid 2 or Grid Autosport will get a release in the future.
Can´t wait to have some nice city builder on Linux, as the Cities in motion games aren´t really city builders. Still waiting to hear something about Banished on Linux too.
