This is pretty awesome, the popular RPG series is coming to Linux! Starting with Disgaea 2 PC!

It has a section ready for Linux system requirements and it lists this as a new feature:
QuotePlayable on Macs & Steam Machines!

Emphasis mine

The game is due 30 January, 2017 so we have a while to wait.

The first game on PC also used OpenGL, so it's not entirely surprising. It would be nice to get all of them though.

About the game
Darkness is back. Overlord Zenon has cursed the land, and now, Veldime is transforming into a nasty Netherworld. Memories are sterilized, bodies demonized, the world is falling into chaos. The only one unaffected is a young man, Adell. He stands up to fight the curse, but things never go as planned. The haughty daughter of Zenon, a filthy little frog, lovable demon siblings and a washed-up rock star!? No one can ever predict what goes on in the world of Disgaea. And of course, other Overlords refuse to sit still watching...

The DEFINITIVE Edition! Includes all content from Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories (PS2) and Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days (PSP).

Will you be picking it up? I sure will be! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

We could do with some JRPG goodness. This one doesn't seem half bad.

Main story wise no it is original. But some of the support characters and boses in Disgaea 2 are from first game.

Holy crap! I never expected to see this! We don't get many legitimate Japanese games at all on Linux, so it's great to see, but this also happens to be one of my favorite JRPG/strategy series! I logged well over 100 hours on the first game, and I got a little ways into 2, but I didn't get very far just because I'm not able to be in front of my old Playstation 2 very often anymore. To have this on SteamOS/Linux?? Freakin' dream come true! Will be an insta-buy as soon as it's official!

Same, I had a hard time believing it when I saw the news. Disgaea is all sorts of awesome, well worth the time. Will throw all my money at it if the port actually comes through.

I'm hoping they kept in the female samurai class from Disgaea 2 DHD; you needed a Disgaea 1 save to unlock that class line in DHD, but since this is now a PC port, I'm not sure. Also excited for Dark Eclair.

Super hyped for this release though, perhaps my favourite game.

Not a big fan of JRPGs (as Bioware once said, "Just because you put a 'J' in front if it doesn't make it an RPG." ), but more love for Linux is always a good thing.

Can't wait to get this. They really should bring the first one in on Linux too.
