Planet Nomads [Steam] is a survival game that, when finished, might seriously be the one for me. It has crafting, vehicles you can build, excellent graphics and this new update seems solid.

Those "things" are devils, they ran at me and starting throwing rocks. I barely escaped with everything intact when testing it out earlier. It eventually ran away when I shot at it for a while. Later I was mining and one sneaked up on me, I quickly died as they're really quite strong animals for the starting area when I've only got the most basic tool to fight with. Fun though, loving the look of them.

Along with adding new animals, this release also adds different types to each animal category. You can find an alpha male, a female, younglings and hopefully more varied types in future. The AI was also improved to make them behave more "naturally". They will also have different textures based on the climate you're in. So there's lots of good improvements to the animals in the game!

Wrecks, old bases and other man-made structures are now scattered across the planet, making the game a lot more interesting to actually explore.

Performance at the moment isn't great though, with my 980ti/i7 combo hardly hitting 40FPS on the "High" settings preset, but it's in Early Access so that's to be expected. The developers told me updating their Unity version is on the cards, so they will test Vulkan as well.

See the official announcement here. There's loads more to it, so take a look.

As space sim fan this is one game I am very curious about - devs seem to have strong grasp what they want to achieve. Added to wishlist, might plunge into buying it when having more free time to play around.

Didn't see the update yesterday. I was waiting for this one so I could start a new game that would not be broken by this update. The game is slowly getting better and more interesting. I do wonder if they plan something of a real story or if it's just injecting a bit of lore into the game.

I have this, been keeping a eye on it. Unfortunately GOG Galaxy isn't on Linux so you must continuously download it off the website whenever any update happens (unless that has changed)

I didn't like the blue fog of war view distance limits, makes it hard to appreciate the world IMO.

This is a game with great potential and is quite fun in early access. I have 30 hours on steam, and plan to play it more as it developed. I haven't played for 2 months now, so all changes from 0.6.4 and newer are new for me. This includes the 0.6.6 update where electrical generators started to require fuel and the 0.6.11 which added a winch to help move a vehicle out of too steep slopes.

Last I played I drove my car into holes in the ground a lot and spent quite some time dismantling my car to rebuild it outside. From the changelog I see there are fewer holes now, and combined with the winch, driving should be a safer experience.

As for testing out the game there are both a survival mode and a sandbox mode where all construction is free and unlocked from the start. I prefer survival, but sandbox is nice to prototype huge constructions, and car designs. You get your parts back when dismantling, but last I played you couldn't convert parts back into raw materials.

If you count how many of each part you use, you can easily figure out how much resources you need to duplicate it in the normal game.

Good to know, they are planning Unity update. Current version has very poor performance.

Nice. Like said here earlier performance is not that good. Specialy @1440p where im hovering around 40 fps only.
@1080p its a bit better around 55fps but could be still more.
This game needs more content and multiplayer. I really like the concept, it just needs more about everything

It's not just not that good. Last time I tried it was horrendous on anything besides minimal settings, and I have a decent GPU. So I decided to wait until they'll switch to Vulkan.

I run it on ultra on my i7-3820, 16GB ram, nvidia 1060 3GB computer. It lag while it saves, and on an earlier version it lagged when I walked far away from where I had been before because it generated the landscape, but other than that I cannot complain about performance. Planet Nomads run better for me than both rust and ark.

It has very bad performance with Mesa on high settings.
