Rocket League for Linux & SteamOS getting close to a release window finally

Someone pinch me, I must be dreaming. It seems Rocket League may actually release sometime soon after a developer posted about it on their Steam forum.

From the post:
QuoteHey all, just wanted to let you know that we're getting close to a release window, but still need to polish more, address remaining bugs, and ensure that cross-play properly works :)

They said a while back it was pushed back to a Q2 release, so they may actually hit that.

The Linux build is in the "QA branch", so it could arrive with the patch due at the end of this month.

I am pleased they are finally saying something a little more positive, hopefully there aren't too many things they need to finish up.

It has been a bit of a rollercoaster with being pushed back multiple times, originally due out in December 2015 it will be fantastic to finally be able to actually write up a release post on it, and play the damn thing.

It does further solidify my stance on buying games: Don't buy them until the Linux version is confirmed to be out.

Will you still be picking up a copy? I know I will be, delay or not it's still a very popular game and looks incredibly fun.

Maybe we will get to play it for GOL's birthday on the 5th of July at this rate!

Thanks for pointing it out fabry92. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

The game seems really fun. Too bad my friends have probably already lost interest, and playing with random strangers isn't really my cup of tea. I'll most likely still get it but I might have to wait for a sale. Happily the Steam summer sale isn't far off.

Then join in some games with the GOL community, I am sure there will be plenty ;)

@tuubi agree @liamdawe agree.
Rocket League coming to Linux/SteamOS is great. Period.

Like always I see glass half empty - I'm closer to tuubi's opinion - I would love to play it when my colleagues are playing it - and it seems it is past already.

Nevertheless we need this title like many others in our library. I'm just afraid that there will be next game of the same developer, which won't come to Linux/SteamOS because of the bad financial result of this port. And bad financial result may be caused by the fact that many people won't be so eager to spend 20 euro on a game witch was abandoned by their friends, so like tuubi (and probably me as well), many people will buy it when it's on sale for a price 70% lower then it is now.

6 months too late if you ask me, it was fun on Christmas day playing it through the Steam Link on a big screen though.

I'll have to do that.

Finally, I have resorted to using Windows 10 to play this game with friends and now there's one less reason to ever boot it, yay! I also got Psyonix at least two more customers.

And yeah I realize I'm not supporting Linux as well as I should but I reckon having some semblance of a social life makes the trade-off worth it.

It is is really a shame that this game wasn't available during the Steam Controller/Machine launch, as everyone who bought a controller or Steam Machine experienced that they couldn't play this game.

I will still be purchasing it, because I have learned to resist the temptation to dual boot, it looks like a good game and to reward developers for supporting Linux. I might not pay full price though and wait for a sale, as it is an older game by now. Hope they do a sale on Linux launch.

"close to a release window" sounds like "in only a few months we can definitly tell that the game is coming within in the next 6 months".
Do not trust "windows", guys ... ;)

Yes! This game is so good and I don't agree, that it is too late. Well it is late, but it is a game I can see myself still playing in 5 years.

In my personal case, I don't care about the delay because there are plenty of other game (yep, plenty of good games on Linux, what a day to be alive ) that I could play in the meantime. But I'm pretty sure it had a bad effect on the (probably few...) early adopters of the steam boxes.
Seeing an important title sold as being available on the platform unplayable during more than half a year can't be a first experience for someone wanting to try Linux/SteamOS.
So, yeah... Valve Time... I hope that Linux gaming will finally get the same intention as Windows in the long run... If it is to end up like this, I am ready to wait
