Double good news for you here as today RUINER entered Beta for Linux, plus you can get it cheap as an early unlock in the newest Humble Monthly (affiliate link).

Writing in the announcement on Steam, the developers noted that a Linux version on GOG is not in their current plans. They will only do that if there's a big enough demand.

Since it's a Beta, there will likely be issues. They say you need VLC installed for video and they've hidden a special cosmetic feature in the game for Linux fans—can't wait to see what, although they do say it's quite tiny.

Grab it now in the Humble Monthly which also gives you Kerbal Space Program, access to the Humble Trove and all the titles they add next month or Steam directly.

About the game:

RUINER is a brutal action shooter set in the year 2091 in the cyber metropolis Rengkok. A wired psychopath lashes out against a corrupt system to uncover the truth and retrieve his kidnapped brother under the guidance of a secretive hacker friend. Combine preternatural reflexes, augmented tools, and the arsenal of fallen foes to tear down and dismantle the corporate titans of virtuality dealers at HEAVEN.

They did say we would get a key to cover it properly today, but haven't heard back yet so will wait and see. Update: We have keys!

Quoting: GuestRight click on the game on steam and go into steam properties, go to "betas" and select linux build

Had the same problem too, need to select the linux beta build as the games in beta at the moment for linux

Thanks! That did it and it's downloading now. :D

Quoting: GuestI can understand why this game isn't available on GOG atm, afterall it is in Beta

Sure, I don't expect beta versions on GOG, but they make it sound like they don't plan to release on GOG at all. I know GOG does their own testing, but it seems to like as long as they've done the work of porting the game, they might as well at least submit it and give it a chance to pass or not on its own merits.

Quoting: GuestHow's performance for everyone else so far? not gotten very far in game yet but I'm struggling to have a fully smooth experience thus far, tried turning vsync off which seems to keep it above 60fps but still has inconsistency enough that I can see alot of stuttering, also tried disabling compositing along with capping the fps to 60fps but still dips under 60fps, even if I turn every setting down

That said, it's still perfectly playable so far with minimal drops, not encountered any game breaking bugs yet, but I'm hoping to get a solid 60fps when it releases out of beta

gtx 1060 3gb
i5 4690k
16gb ram
1600x900
Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit
Also stutters mostly on attacks on GTX 1070/7700k. After I died the first time a stuck piece of the "death screen" was left at the bottom of the screen. Weird. It looks like the game doesn't draw in that area at all, I tried different fullscreen modes, "windowed" does the trick after going fullscreen manually with a hotkey. Might be something to do with my not-quite-standart 1920x1200 resolution. This gap looks like what happens when I start a fullscreen trailer in Steam though in that case the non-redrawing strip is at the top. The game also minimizes on launch and I have to restore it manually.

Overall quite good for the beta. It starts and allows to play but surely needs polish.

Poor decision to base GOG release on customer demand. As a GOG user I'm fine in not be able to play the game while in beta state, I'm patient enough. Not all Linux users speak up and it doesn't mean they're not interested, considering GOG being a smaller user base than Steam how much 'big' are they talking about here.

Maybe they should take a look at this article to get an idea how bad their decision is.

I was all set to buy this yesterday, but my brakes locked up when I saw the word "Beta." As stoked as I am to play this game (at last) I can't get past paying full price for less than the full release. Ah, well, I've waited this long. I'll wait a bit longer for the final release, or for the next time it goes on sale, whichever comes first. Either way, [in deep, sinister, echo-y voice] It. Will. Be. MINE!

Very pleased with the early unlocks on the May 2018 Humble Monthly. Wanted RUINER and wanted Kerbal Space Program, but in each case they don't quite fit in with my regular gaming tastes, so I was only planning to grab them at a decent discount.

I'm a little disappointed about not getting the just-expired April 2018 Monthly - The reason I didn't was the Early Unlocks - I already own Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and the other Earlies - God Eater 2 / Mafia III were Windows-only. But, within the hidden bits of the bundle, I'd have particularly like Subterrain (on my wish list) and the other Linux titles too (Lara Croft GO, AER Memories of Old) but then it only had 4 Linux games out of 8, and I owned one of them.
