Slaps and Beans now in Early Access

By - | Views: 8,446

Bud Spencer & Terence Hill: Slaps and Beans [Steam] is now in Early Access after a successful Kickstarter campaign in which the developers gained over $200k.

A little info about the game (taken from Steam store):

The first OFFICIAL Bud Spencer and Terence Hill videogame!
Bud Spencer and Terence Hill in their first virtual adventure. A brand new story! Whether in the Western Saloon, Miami Downtown, at the fairground etc... you'll get the full load of funny conversation, slaps and of course lots of mass brawls.

Slaps And Beans is a co-operative or single player scrolling beat’em up game with the addition of platform elements and mini-games in which you'll interpret the characters of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill.

The key ingredients of Slaps and Beans are:
Retro pixel art graphics
Bud Spencer & Terence Hill style fighting system
Co-op multiplayer
Mini-games
A red Dune Buggy with a yellow tarp
A lot of slaps and a lot of beans (obviously)

The result of that campaign is a pixel-arted Beat'em up game that I've been enjoying for over 40 minutes... but there are currently some big, game-breaking issues. In the Supermarket level I found myself unable to pick up any items including those needed to progress through the level. Worse, when I came back to the game the next day, I discovered that all my progress has been lost. Pretty frustrating to lose almost an hour of gametime to such a bug. :(

However, even though I had those issues (and others), I had a blast with the game. The fighting is great, the music is fantastic (because it's the same music that was in the original movies), and I love it. The controller works as it's supposed to (Logitech F310), slapping and punching as I pressed the buttons.

Final verdict: I suggest that you wait for a couple of months before buying this game. It is playable and fun, but it contains a lot of bugs that could prevent player from progressing. In its current state, $20 is a little bit too much, but the potential is there.

Wait, what? There is a Bud Spencer game and I don't know about that? Oh man I LOVE their movies. I'll need to take close look at that once I have the time.

Glad there are more people with good taste in movies :)
In current state, I wouldn't recommend buying this game (as I mentioned in the article).
But it's really good, I guarantee ;)

I remember loving their movies back when I was a kid, sadly though it´s been a looong time since I last saw one of them. I think they haven´t shown any on my available tv-channels for at least a decade or maybe two, haven´t seen any on DVD for rental in that time either, or on Netflix in the last few years.

Will absolutely buy, but I think I´ll wait for a little bit of a sale, euro 19.99 is a tad on the expensive side for a side-scrolling "beat´em up" (not really a genré I find that enjoyable)

EDIT: I've managed to finish the game as it started to save my progress all of sudden.
There are still some minor issues, but otherwise it's playable

Yeah, thanks for the article and the heads-up. This totally flew under the radar for me because I was busy with other stuff.

It works wonderfully on my T530 with its integrated video card. I foresee having a lot of fun with this during the weekend. ;)

Man, just hearing the music brought back so many memories.
