Well now, Syber discounted their Steam Machine line (all three models), and now all but the highest price machine are sold out. This was a one-day sale, and sadly we missed covering it here, but it's worth noting that it did well.
The discount made their cheapest model only $299, which is pretty damn good for what you are getting. So it's not surprising they sold out of their reasonably priced models. I'm starting to really like Syber. Their Steam Machine doesn't look half bad either, don't you think?
Hopefully people won't just stick Windows on it, we could have a big bunch of new SteamOS users on the way folks. I wish we knew how many sold, as they may have only had a very limited stock to test demand.
The fun thing is, with sales like this you could have upgraded the machine to be more powerful and keep it at a more affordable price, heh. I wonder how many people did that in the rush.
Hopefully Alienware will do a sale too sometime soon for the upcoming holidays. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I don't believe many people are going to remove SteamOS from them. Most people just want to plug and play and that's the big feature of Steam Machines, that they are a system ready to use. Else you could just get yourself a PC. :P
The fact that SteamOS on those boxes should be self-updating as well and so requiring no maintenance whatsoever is a big plus, especially for the large crowd who appreciates consoles and that just wants to play, without wasting time messing with PC's. The games selection for SteamOS is quite large too.

Syber Steam Machines are built with standard desktop parts making them easy to upgrade.
Didn't buy one because I don't need one right now, but it would be my #1 choice.

I reckon those people who desire to play some Windows games will stream them from their desktops, since that was one of the big selling points Valve has emphasized about Steam Machines. I'm pretty sure most people know what they're getting when they buy one.

I follow loads of gaming/tech/Linux sites and haven't seen it publicised anywhere prior to this. Nice that the sale they had and told nobody about is gaining them so much publicity NOW!

Considering all newest Windows are nagging you to register and is very PITA to setup pirated versions, I doubt they will get Windows updates. Most likely they will discover they can a) stream games from PC and b) play some of their catalog native.
