Controller makes game crash and issues with international keyboard layout.
Julius Sep 13, 2015
I am basically using POL/Wine to play some Japanese doujin games, and overall the experience is pretty good.

However on the Edelweiss titles like Ether Vapour and Astebreed I noticed that the game exhibits strange behavior and crashed if I use my xbox360 controller.
Mainly it cycled really rapidly though the menu options until I move a analog stick, and crashed back to the desktop when going into the game. When I unplug the controller it works great.

The only problem I have then is that controls are done for US type keyboard layouts and can't be changed in game (mainly the Z vs Y button on my German keyboard makes playing the games difficult).

Does anyone have an idea how to fix the controller issues, or alternatively: is there a way to switch keyboard layouts easily and on an application basis?

xkb-switch (and a small wrapper shell script for the game) should do the trick.
