Ubuntu Mesa/Vulkan ppas
mt7479 Jul 17, 2018
I'm considering getting myself an amd card and was wondering what ppas fellow Ubuntu users prefer.

I found those two:

https://launchpad.net/~paulo-miguel-dias/+archive/ubuntu/mesa

https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers

Im more of a casual gamer and wonder if there will be improvements using ppa Vs whatever Ubuntu ships. Looking for a stable experience so I would prefer release builds.

Never had any bad experiences with paulo's repo. Currently using it even :)

When it comes to mesa it's good to have a very recent version at the moment as they fix things very quickly. Those fixes takes too long to reach the default ubuntu repositories.

That was my understanding as well. Do you use release or development ?

Quoting: GuestOibaf ppa is better, it is updated twice per day while Padoka ppa in 2-4 weeks. Use a rolling release OS. You can use Oibaf ppa Cosmic version with Debian testing Xfce. Use also latest AMD kernel, amd-staging-drm-next or drm-next-4.x-wip. See how to use them or use my distribution:

Debian testing for gaming

Thanks, not looking to distro switch though. But I might give this a try when the opportunity comes up.
