Title: GOTY 2019 nominations now open
Liam Dawe 21 Jan 2020
Hello again all, thanks for the feedback recently helping come up with categories for our GOTY award.

Nominations are now open: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/goty.php

Note: Since this is for supported Linux games, it counts if it released for Windows in 20xx but for Linux in 2019. Go by the Linux release date.

Doing it quietly here on the forum first, so that we don't get utterly swamped approving them.

Nominations will stay open for a while, then we close nominations and go over each category to ensure they're all in the right place and after that voting opens.

I wanted to nominate Baba Is You for "Most innovative gameplay for a 2019 release" but it said that no games match that find. But when I tried to submit it, it said that the game already exists in the database.

And that's why I did this quietly to start with :P - fixed.

Thanks, it works now.

Quoting: PatolaX4: Foundations was released in November 30, 2018 for Windows, but the Linux version was released in mid-2019. Does it count as 2019 then?
Yes, this is for Linux games.

It seems like the Favourite FOSS Project category is also limited to games found in the database?
Liam Dawe 21 Jan 2020
Yes, it all is.

Proton not eligible for 'Favourite FOSS Project' then?

It's fine, it's still a FOSS project.

I guess I should be clearer: not being in our database doesn't mean it's not eligible :) - just needs someone to submit it to us or for us to manually add it.

Alright, I gave submitting Proton a shot.

It was accepted (by Scaine while I slept :P). So you can now nominate it :)

About "FOSS game engine reimplementation", do they need to have an official update (not just some new commits for example) in 2019? Or just only created in 2019?

The description inside the category is:
What is your absolute favourite free and open source game engine reimplementation?
There's no date attached to it.

I think I need to make the descriptions bigger...people keep missing it.

Sorry Liam... Facepalm is required I think.
Liam Dawe 22 Jan 2020
I've centered the description and made it a header, just to bring more attention to it since this appears to have confused many :)
Salvatos 22 Jan 2020
Maybe it’s just me, but my eyes just skip right past the first half of the page to "Here's what's in this category currently!" Maybe I’m too used to skipping past the main page banner.

If it helps, I might do something like below, taking the category name out of the breadcrumbs and coloring the description so it stands out regardless of sizing.

I kind of feel like the form should be under the current listing too.

The form was moved, with a button to jump/highlight to it if needed. I agree it's better, might get people to actually look first before submitting.

Is it me or OpenXRay is being refused to the nominees for FOSS engine reimplementation? If yes, why?

It's not FOSS.

Hmm that's a shame, I compiled the engine myself and the game runs great on my machine. Fucking license. :(

This is the last day to nominate games.
