Dawn of Man

Anyone played it recently ?
If so, what's your take on it ?

Might be me, but not knowing it was a game, I was hoping this post would be filled with some deep philosophical musings.

Or is the shortness of the post belying the philosophical underpinning? The expectations of meaning from the dawn of man by me, the reader, only to be dashed by the disappointment of my expectation of the post showing there is no deeper meaning of existence beyond our animal ancestors? Is there nothing beyond The nihilistic existence of our civilization in the Grand March of past civilizations and those yet to come?

Huh, what do you know, it IS a civ/city builder!

What ?

Just wanted to know if anyone has played the game and what they think about it.
Not what their take on Sigmond Freuds - Phsyconanalysis of every day life and the potential evolution of humanity.

Sorry, bad attempt at some humor there.

It does look interesting though, I've not played it, but I'm definitely going to keep an eye on it. It looks pretty epic in scope, which I'm really interested in.

Thanks for mentioning it

Late to this party, but in an attempt to answer the original question:

Short answer: it runs well and I found it to be an enjoyable game.

Technical:
It runs flawlessly for me. I couldn't tell you right now without looking it up whether it's a native or proton game.

Game Play:
Obviously, this is a matter of opinion, but I've enjoyed it for the most part. It's a pretty solid survival/town-builder. There are a few things I think I'd change like some aspects of the tech tree or how attacker-AI works, but even those are pretty mild issues in my opinion. There are a few quality-of-life UI controls that might be nice, but again, nothing that's genuinely derailed my enjoyment. If you enjoy games like Banished, you'll probably enjoy Dawn of Man.

Graphically, I think it's fantastic. The sound design while not the most elaborate or nuanced, is quite satisfactory.

It would probably have benefited from having a more robust user mod capability. Though, again, I think the base game is solid enough. Probably the worst thing I can say about this game is that it appears to be "done". It's not unfinished or anything, and the devs do still post periodic bug fixes, but it doesn't look like they're interested into expanding the game at all.

I show the game being $25 (US) right now. That's probably a fair price for it. But we're also coming up on "sale season" so I suspect one could pick it up for much less if you can wait.
