The latest update to Sid Meier's Civilization VII from Firaxis Games is out now with version 1.2 bringing some major new features, and a whole lot of enhancements to make this latest game in the series feel just a bit more finished.

With the update they've added in ten new resources to find including Mangoes, Clay, Flax, Rubies, Rice, Limestone, Tin, Llamas, Hardwood, and Wild Game. Each comes with their own effects and narrative event too. Resource distribution is a bit more randomized with new placement login to keep things a bit more interesting too.

The One More Turn mode is live, for people who wish to keep on playing after finishing the Modern Age. This lets you experiment a bit more, earn other victory types and see their cinematics too.

Food and population growth also got some developer "TLC", so they overhauled it as they "heard you loud and clear on this one". In short they said the impact with this update includes:

  • Food-focused strategies are finally viable all game long.
  • Food-focused civs and leaders like (looking at you, Pachacuti) will feel stronger and more fun to play.
  • AI behavior has improved, since they can now leverage high-Food starts and avoid bottlenecks that used to limit their expansion. You may find you even need to turn your difficulty settings down a notch.

A major new feature is the addition of Multiplayer Teams. Something that felt odd to be left out really for this type of game. Now you can "play co-op with a friend or have a showdown with multiple teams facing off against each other". Details include:

  • Teams share visibility with each other, along with relationships, war status, and alliance status with other leaders.
  • When one player wins a victory, the whole team also wins that victory.
  • Teammates can perform Diplomatic Actions with each other, with the exception of Espionage Actions.

However, it's a bit different to previous Civ games, as you don't share Tech or Civic progress, so your play time is still a bit unique.

There's also lots of other balance improvements, AI upgrades, UI improvements and much more. For Linux players they also "Addressed several input issues" and on Steam Deck they also made a few UI tweaks to improve the flow too. See all in the full patch notes.
