Ricave is a thoroughly quirky and unique first-person, 3D roguelike dungeon crawler, now available in Early Access and worth a look. Disclosure: the developer sent a key.

From Polish solo developer Piotr Walczak, it's quite impressive what they've built here with all the systems that work together. You will do a big mixture of exploring, fighting, looting, swimming, spell casting, trap setting, discovering secrets and more across various randomly generated dungeons. It's all about outsmarting your enemies in this one.

It's entirely deterministic, which is a full utilised feature so you can rewind time to try something else and doing the same thing will always provide the same result. As they said, there's no cheesing your way through this one. Well, I'm sure I'll still find a way to do plenty of stupid things.

The combat and health tracking are quite fun and interesting in this one too. You can directly target body parts during combat, but so can your enemy. Damage to your eyes causes blindness, missing arms limit item interactions, a missing leg will slow you down and so on. And then there's also various status effects from illnesses to starvation. Ricave certainly has a lot going for it.

At its core, it's a roguelike though, and so it can be a thorough challenge. However, it's quite inviting with that challenge thanks to the accessible interface and colourful design. That, and a full tutorial that will teach you the basics properly but naturally there's a lot you're left to discover through trial and error, especially when it comes to all the different items and enemy types.

If you enjoy a good dungeon crawler, it's time to give Ricave a go and see what you think. It has Native Linux support now in Early Access. A game that clearly deserves a lot more attention and sales.
