The much loved 3D platformer A Hat in Time just got a surprise patch to update the game for newer graphics APIs.

With the June 26th update they've added in support for DirectX 12 and Vulkan, which should help keep it running smoothly on modern systems. They're still currently recommending DirectX 9 for now.

They also had two bug fixes:

  • Fixed rare crash when playing mods in Online Party.
  • Fixed Time Piece collect jingle playing for an incorrect duration.

Nice to see this 2017 game still being supported by developer Gears for Breakfast.

A big summer event is currently ongoing for the game with over 100 community-made levels in the new Summer Event Map, which is available until July 31st.

I wonder if this makes the game run better. Side note: I remember this being one of the games where NVK outperforms the proprietary NVIDIA drivers. Will this update change that?
