Paleo Pines released back in September 2023 and it's set for a big free update, but the developer is gathering the needed funds on Kickstarter.
Speaking about why they needed a Kickstarter campaign to fund it they said that while it has been a success in terms of reception and reach, the reality is that the financial benefits have "primarily gone to our publishers" — ouch. Most of their funding to keep going has been via merchandise like plushies. They go on to note how funding for "independent developers have been drying up at an alarming rate", with no other publishers jumping in to boost it.
And so they're trying a Kickstarter for the update. Seems it was a good idea with it hitting £101,143 at time of writing against their original £75,000 goal. So the free update is funded for all players of the game, with extra funding now going towards even more new features to come.

What will the update actually add in? They plan to add the Spinosaurus, more dream stones, a new shooting stars system and significant performance optimisations at a minimum. With other additions if they manage to pull in even more funding like a big new swamp biome.
The base game has Native Linux support and is Steam Deck Verified.
Unless maybe the publisher is entitled to a bigger share up to a certain threshold (to quickly recoup their costs) and the threshold still hasn't been met? Would be nice to know the full story, but it will probably never happen.
