If you're in need of an ARPG to play on Steam Deck / SteamOS or other handhelds, Last Epoch Season 3 could be the one for you. They've recently put up the full details of what's including, and there really is a lot coming that should hopefully be a big hit for Eleventh Hour Games.

For Steam Deck and other lower-end systems, performance should be improved by quite a lot. They've detailed how with the Season 3 update that lands August 21st, they've worked in texture streaming across the whole game to provide "reduced memory usage and improved loading times" and now the game "uses at least 25% less vram with full texture resolution enabled". For Steam Deck, they said bumping it up to the Medium preset is now possible.

There's quite a few other optimisations they've made including optimising memory allocation, a new graphics setting to control the amounts of lights emitted by visual effects, a fix for hitching seen in the game, various lighting adjustments to improve performance and the list goes on.

Controller / gamepad input has seen a few improvements too like stopping accidental movement if a panel is open, controller navigation for the chat window and other controller UI adjustments.

Perhaps most exciting though is the big new Rift Beasts feature, which they said is a bit like the Nemesis mechanic from Shadow of Mordor, but different enough that they won't fall afoul of the ridiculous patent that Warner Bros. have on it. Essentially, you go through a series of encounters and fight off special beasties and their evolved descendants. Sounds pretty awesome.

:doubt:

I remember playing that game a while back and being impressed at how bad it ran. Plus the online only requirement for a single player game is never a good idea.

After everything people said about Krafton as a company on the article from last month, I'm curious of the community's reaction. Is this fortunate news, do you still have skepticism of what's to come?

So . . . if this is Last Epoch, but it's season 3, does that mean the original was actually the Antepenultimate Epoch?
