Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming and soon too! On September 4th, the wait will finally be over for fans as confirmed today by Team Cherry. Finally, it took a while but hopefully the wait will have been worth it. Sure does look incredible.

It was originally due to be an expansion for the original but simply grew to big. Their team spoke to Jason Schreier at Bloomberg (paywalled), detailing why it took so long to arrive. The answer is pretty simple. There was no burnout or anything big happening behind the scenes, as developer Ari Gibson said "It was never stuck or anything. It was always progressing. It's just the case that we’re a small team, and games take a lot of time. There wasn’t any big controversial moment behind it." and they were having a bit too much fun designing and expanding it.

"We felt like continued updates were just going to sour people on the whole thing," Gibson said. "Because all we could really say is, 'We’re still working on it.'"

Game Highlights (from Steam):

  • Discover a whole new kingdom! Explore coral forests, mossy grottos, gilded cities and misted moors as you ascend to the shining citadel at the top of the world.
  • Engage in lethal acrobatic action! Wield a whole new suite of deadly moves as you dance between foes in deadly, beautiful combat.
  • Craft powerful tools! Master an ever-expanding arsenal of weapons, traps, and mechanisms to confound your enemies and explore new heights.
  • Solve shocking quests! Hunt down rare beasts, solve ancient mysteries and search for lost treasures to fulfil the wishes of the downtrodden and restore the kingdom’s hope. Prepare for the unexpected!
  • Face over 150 all-new foes! Beasts and hunters, assassins and kings, monsters and knights, defeat them all with bravery and skill!
  • Challenge Silk Soul mode! Once you conquer the kingdom, test your skills in an all-new mode that spins the game into a unique, challenging experience.
  • Experience a stunning orchestral score! Hollow Knight’s award-winning composer, Christopher Larkin, returns to bring melancholy melodies, symphonic strings and heart-thumping, soul strumming boss themes to the adventure.

It's not entirely clear if it will have Native Linux support like the original. I've emailed the developer to ask. Otherwise there's Valve's excellent Proton compatibility layer.

Oh my good lord god, it's finally happening. I thought I had prepared for this, spent years preparing for it, but now that it's here, I feel so unready...

Alright I'll go do the Radiance bosses in HK, as promised. Damn I thought I could shield myself with Silksong never getting a release date, but here we are. emoji

@Pyrate Seems you're at the same place I am. I do really want to get that last one, but it's more precision platforming than boss fight and I absolutely suck at it.

WHOA.

I never thought it would exist. I thought they made enough cash on the first one they could live their lives forever and just not be worried by the stress and insanity the follow up would create, but here I stand corrected!
