Proton Experimental was updated for September 10th to bring more Windows game fixes to Linux Desktop, SteamOS and Steam Deck.

This will show up as an update in your Steam Downloads. Or, it will install automatically if Valve have it set by default for a game when you go to play it. Otherwise, search for Proton Experimental in your Steam Library to install it.

Listed in the update changelog as now playable includes:

  • Arken Age
  • Ninja Reflex: Steamworks Edition

The other fixes and improvements:

  • Fixed Proton Experimental regressions:
    • Red Dead Redemption 2 should no longer hang on a black screen on certain setups
  • Fixed Tales Of Berseria crashing with certain paths used for the location of the Steam Library.
  • Fixed Dune: Awakening wrongly displaying warning about hard drive below minimum requirements.
  • Fixed Dune: Awakening displaying warning about graphics drivers with AMD GPUs.
  • Fixed license agreement screen not working in Terminull Brigade.
  • Updated Wine Mono to 10.2.0.
  • Fixed Proton 10 regressions:
    • Alien: Rogue Incursion VR is playable again.
    • Quake IV and DOOM 3 should no longer have issues with mouse input in full screen mode.

And to save you an extra click here's what was changed in Wine Mono 10.2.0:

  • Mono's handling of arrays with no defined size in native wrappers now treats them as having a size of 1, matching .NET Framework. This fixes a crash in some winforms applications when used with accessibility tools.
  • Fixed an assertion failure when using the undocumented "VtblGap" runtime feature. Terraria's multiplayer server encounters this.
  • Modified FNA's Texture2D class to be xml-serializable. This is used (but not really) by Meridian: New World. It attempts to serialize a class containing a null Texture2D field, but just having the field is enough to cause an error.
  • Implemented some Microsoft.DirectX.DirectInput.Device methods used by the Sega Rally launcher.
  • Technical
    • Some warning fixes in WpfGfx to support newer llvm-mingw.
    • mono-basic has been merged into Framework Mono.
  • Upstream updates
    • SDL to 3.2.20
    • FNA to 25.08, plus a few additional commits with fixes for Galactic Arms Race on NVidia GPUs and Ring Runner.
    • llvm-mingw to 20250709
