You'll still be able to play The Spell Brigade with Valve's Proton, but the Native Linux version is no longer going to be supported or updated.
What is it? The Spell Brigade is an online co-op focused survivor-like (so like Vampire Survivors). You attempt to complete team-based objectives while unlocking upgrades to make overpowered spell synergies, it also has friendly-fire so no one is safe which makes it quite chaotic.
In the latest update posted on Steam under "News for Linux Players" they said they're ending support for the Native Linux version. Here's what they said:
We’re moving away from the native Linux build, but you can keep playing without interruption. All your progress will carry over to the Windows build under Proton, so you can continue where you left off and enjoy the latest updates.
We’re making this change for several reasons:
- Persistent visual bugs on NVIDIA cards on Linux, which are resolved by switching to Proton
- Technical changes to the game’s netcode that prevent full compatibility with a native Linux build
- Certain Linux-specific bugs, such as issues with screen resolutions and refresh rates
Native Linux build support will end with our next update on September 24th.
They're certainly not alone in facing these issues, I've seen a number of Unity game engine titles suffer from an increasing amount of problems lately. Seems Unity's Linux support isn't particularly great right now. Not all developers though, like Wheel World recently added a Native Linux version mentioning better performance.
