Below the Crown from the developer of Duskers arrives November with a demo live now

Misfits Attic developers of the excellent Duskers have revealed their quirky blend of genres in Below the Crown will hit Early Access on November 10th. It's a love letter to chess, roguelikes, and dungeon crawlers with a demo that should be live today.

In an email to GamingOnLinux their press team noted "For transparency, I know Linux support is planned, but we're unsure when it will be available at this time". So initially you may need to use Proton to run the Windows version.

Covet great riches and please the Emperor by engaging in a satisfying mix of chess, spell slinging, and strategy. As a Wizard, lead a party of chess-inspired pieces, including Bishops, Knights, perhaps even a Mad Queen, to brave a mysterious, ever-changing dungeon.

Outwit the enemy with superior strategic maneuvers, or wing it by flinging freezing spells and explosions. Collect and assign magical runes to increase the challenge level of the next run. Acquire new skills and spell cards to expand the tactical possibilities, as well as the fun.

Below the Crown was created by industry veterans who have worked on everything from well-known series Diablo and Call of Duty to DreamWorks classics, including Shrek 2, How to Train Your Dragon, and Bee Movie.

“Below the Crown was ultimately born out of our love for chess and fun, strategic gameplay," said Tim Keenan, Founder, Misfits Attic. “Executing very complex, multistage moves is the best part of the game for some, but can be intimidating for others. By creating an atmospheric and escalating romp through the depths below, we hope to create an experience that both types of players can enjoy."
