A roguelike Scottish Dynasty Warriors? Sort of. Tears of Metal has a demo out now on Steam and if you love a good hack and slash, this is one to try out. Developed by Paper Cult, who previously released Bloodroots back in 2021.
Tears of Metal is a medieval hack-and-slash co-op roguelike. Carve through hordes of enemies to reclaim your island with the help of your formidable Scottish battalion. As you advance deeper into the trenches, uncover more about the mysterious Dragon Meteor and the treacherous enemy invasion. You go through slaying hordes of enemies using various different types of attacks and specials, and once each battle is completed you'll be able to pick a special upgrade to buff up your character.
It's all about the replay value here. Each run through will be different, giving you a chance to try out all sorts of powerful builds. Not just for you though, you have your own little army of Scottish soldiers who you can upgrade and improve throughout your campaign too. And, between campaigns, there's also a little settlement you can upgrade to access shops and permanent upgrades.
You can even play it in online co-op for up to 4 players, so looks like another one to add to our growing list of fun co-op games.
The game works great on Desktop Linux PCs with Proton and it should work quite well on Steam Deck too.
