Is it a roguelike? Is it a puzzle game? CiniCross is both, taking place in a retro-styled dark fantasy universe it looks rather interesting. Made with Unity, it doesn't actually advertise it but there's even a Native Linux demo of the game available.

One I discovered recently when looking for something a little different to highlight! The blend of ideas here is quite an odd one, and a little unusual but it weirdly works. You go through different floors completing nonograms by filling in tiles based on the numbers each side, and right-clicking to add a cross in a tile so you don't accidentally try to fill it. If you fill the wrong tile, you lose some health. Since it's a roguelike it's fresh each run, and you get access to various items to help you along the way when things get complex.

Game Highlights:

  • Increasing difficulty - Deeper you go into the dungeon, the more complex the puzzles get, but the rewards are also greater. You'll be able to solve lots of puzzles with several grid sizes, which are procedurally generated and have a single solution.
  • Use the power of artifacts and items - During your perilous journey, you will collect numerous artifacts and items with various powers that will change the way you play throughout your run. Automatically fill columns, increase your rewards, slow down time, and more. Combine their effects for devastating results.
  • Face all the bosses as you traverse procedurally generated dungeons - Each floor has several paths, all of which lead to the floor boss. You must defeat him to progress. Each boss has his own power, forcing you to adapt your playing style and approach to nonograms. You will also find all kinds of places to help you in your exploration, such as shops, campfires, etc.
  • Perish and retry - Every mistake, every second wasted, and much more will cost you dearly. That's why you will surely perish many times in this dungeon filled with dangers. Start again, collect new treasures, and try your chance once more. You will need to manage your time carefully.

Going by what the developer said there won't be any more major demo updates, as they're now focused on finishing up the full version of the game. Worth a go though!
