News - NVIDIA release fresh details on their current Wayland support and future plans
By Shmerl, 23 May 2025 at 4:51 am UTC

Between Vulkan video and VAAPI - there is zero reason for using nvdec.

There is Zink's VAAPI over Vulkan video which which will provide VAAPI for nvk scenario.

All that isn't ready yet, but things are moving there. But as above, personally I'd just never touch Nvidia hardware to begin with.

I have a Pro 2. Out of curiosity I installed their software on Windows to test the back buttons and I was surprised they didn't worked all that well on some games. Looks like Steam Input don't like 8bitdo software, so for example, L4D2 didn't recognized the back buttons.

I hope on Linux the situation improves with time, although the back buttons seems more useful for FPS gaems and for those, I have a Steam Controller, which is better for that type of game.

I had my doubts, but the card events do break up the monotony of the Survivors gameplay nicely, and the card movements are easier to track than they were in Hands of Fate, so it doesn't feel as random. Pretty good.

There is no relation between nazism and soviet symbols. They are two entirely different ideologies.
Insert same, same, but different, but still same meme here.

Sure, there were differences, but not in a good vs. evil sense. Both were violent genocidal regimes fighting over influence. The reason why they were on opposite sides is because both wanted control over Europe.

My people did not join the soviet empire willingly. Many were deported to concentration camps in Siberia and died there. Others died fighting. We did not want nazis and we did not want soviets, but neither cared about what we wanted. So yeah, I don't see much of a difference.

They need steam input over 2.4Ghz (native gyro, and native Botton mapping for all buttons). If they can do this, they will have a near perfect steamOS controller and could completely corner the market.

My gripe and ultimately the reason I replaced my 8bitdo Ultimate Wired controller was the d-pad. Pressing any direction and apllying just slightly more pressure to one side would trigger the button on that side. For example, pressing down on the d-pad but applying just a bit more pressure on the left side of the down button would also activate the left button. This resulted in a lot of frustration in Dark Souls and Elden Ring, where in the middle of a boss fight I would accidentally switch items or weapons.

I really hope they fixed that.

It'd be nice if their official adapter supported connecting more then 1 controller at a time

I guess there's bluetooth for that but don't know how reliable it'd be, plus I don't think the triggers are analogue over bluetooth

The Ultimate 2 is nice and comfortable (still just a tad small for my hands).

My own two complaints is using plus and minus instead of the menu and select and that I can't use the right stick button to teleport in Minecraft Dungeons.

I love the texture and the battery life handles our Boomerang Fu marathon nicely.

I got two Ultimate 2C wireless, some months ago. They are pretty solid. LTT did a review of these, at that time. It seems the input lag (latency) from the 2.4ghz is the lowest you can get, compared to all other controllers. It beats wired controllers. Even in Bluetooth mode, they are among the best.

I imagine for the summary, at a minimum they will keep the Steam Deck bit, after all it is their own direct device. They'll probably expand the platform bit to specifically note SteamOS instead.

Myself, I'm a M & K guy. I do own a Xbox 360 and a Steam Controller. But due to increasing controller needs, just yesterday two 8BitDo Ultimate 2C wired controllers arrived. (I was surprised Xbox 360 controller is not sold anymore - now I got two new controllers for less than the price of one of those!) I read a very positive review and they do feel quite good! At first they didn't work in Minecraft OOTB, but with a quick little kernel upgrade (thanks, Debian backports!), I'm fine and set.

I bought a GuliKit KK3 Pro in March and I'm very happy with it, although the firmware needs to be updated both controller and the dedicated dongle. However, the only thing you need to update the firmware is a file manager, so you can do the process from Linux without problems.

Yes, fwupd would be better, but the GuliKit method is IMO better than using Windows.

Though I'm not using Steam OS on my ROG Ally (yet) but bazzite, the Steam Client there has already adapted to the new rating system. I do see now blue checkmarks instead of the green check or yellow exlamation mark, telling me games being Steam OS compatible. When I open the info box, it still has a tab for Steam Deck compatibilty info.

Will be interesting to see how this will adapt to the year in review summary, will it show how much I've played on Deck and on other handheld devices? Will it now show just Steam OS devices? We will see :)

Is it not reasonable to expect this SteamOS Beta branch, that's in development to support other devices, to leave the Beta state simultaneously with this Lenovo device release ? It can only make sense for the OS to be in a Stable state when the device comes out, right ?

I could imagine all three variants: simultaneously (IMHO the least likely), SteamOS first, device first. I mean... there's already a device running SteamOS without it being "released", right? And Lenovo won't wait until Valve declares some general readiness,
