News - No Man's Sky Beacon is another huge free update
By aptmx45, 5 Jun 2025 at 6:57 pm UTC

Is this game worth buying now? I see it is on sale right now, but 60$ seems steep for a game from 2016. SD verified is a huge plus though!

No, a lot of people play via kb/m, it has never been a controller-only service.

As secure as anything will be. Linking your accounts doesn't actually give NVIDIA anything that could compromise your account, it's just to see what games you have in your account.

So the key question--will people give an f?
At 80€ I personnaly won't.

due to it hitting GitHub's rate-limit and blocking it.

I may have mentioned before how heroic's tendency to go out and connect to stuff online willy-nilly, without a simple switch to disable it, was starting to bug me.

Wasn't quite expecting this sort of problem, though.

Yeah, it's definitely turned into a bit of a proving ground for their next title, certainly not complaining :)

Still waiting for Star Wars: Survivor. That's the only game that I can't play locally (with acceptable performances), on my Steam Deck.

The game that keeps on giving and giving.
Probably a new expedition is coming out soon too. Those expeditions bring me back to the game again and again, otherwise I don't really know what to do in NMS after finishing the quest lines.
This game is one of the shining examples of game support, after such a rough start No Man's Sky has completely changed and very much overdelivered on everything. And it still performs awesomely well on Deck.
I guess they said it somewhere, but all the updates seem to be "tests" for their new game "Light No Fire". Like, let's test new weather effects... and backport it to No Man's Sky. Or let's test fishing mechanics, and put it into No Man's Sky... etc.

Voice acting is good for accessibility. If I wind up playing this version, though, I'll turn it off because it's bad for immersion.

The game is really fun, also playing with a friend against computer opponents on top of the campaign. We are both long-time c&c fans (starting from Dune 2 on).

It's good for the medium to have a wide variety of different kinds of games.
It's never good for single player games when their devs start focusing on MP shenanigans, usually failing and burning in the process.
Make single player games.
Make multiplayer games.
Make either with the possibility of being played like the other.
But don't add weird components of one into the other, know your game's identity and stick to it.

Gaming has been severely hurt by multiplayer trend-chasing devs and publishers, and Mr. sonic here is completely correct about that.

News - Re-establish a haven for the lost dwarven civilization in Regions of Ruin: Runegate
By RFSharpe, 4 Jun 2025 at 10:01 pm UTC

Back in 2018 I went on side-scroller binge that lasted for several years. I think I started with Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (fantastic game!). I tried out Kingdom Two Crowns and found it enjoyable, but found it somewhat repetitive and only ended up playing a total of around 5 hours. At that point I discovered Regions of Ruin. I found the progression in the game satisfying and ended up playing over 50 hours. From the look of things, the new Regions of Ruin: Runegate makes me want to revisit the side-scrolling genre.

I am glad to see the team at Gameclaw Studio is still viable. Also glad to hear that they are continuing with their support of Native Linux. I will be interested to see how this game plays on a Steam Deck. Hopefully they will put out a demo when they get closer to release. No matter, I am planning on purchasing this game when it is released.

News - Discord wants developers to stick it inside their games with a new SDK
By scaine, 4 Jun 2025 at 9:37 pm UTC

Discord links are usually at the end of their books. I rarely check author sites, tbh. I'll have a squizz through my books and see if I can give some examples later. I read a lot (a lot!) and this has always felt like a common theme for me.

Until another game with a multiplayer component gets popular again and ruins everything.
What a bizarrely elitist thing to bash on unprompted. There's nothing wrong with multiplayer. It's good for the medium to have a wide variety of different kinds of games.

News - Freaky incremental dungeon crawler Horripilant gets a demo
By Nezchan, 4 Jun 2025 at 7:41 pm UTC

This, I like. Downloaded the demo, and it's definitely going on my wishlist.

The style is great and the mechanics are solid, if a bit vague in spots. I'd normally say that's a downside, but in a game like this you kind of want that feeling of not quite knowing what everything does right from the start.

By Nezchan, 4 Jun 2025 at 7:36 pm UTC

I played the demo, and I must say the "therapeutic" aspect escaped me. And the "slow" aspect. I'd say "frantic" is a better term.

Not bad, although I doubt I'll be wishlisting it.

I bought an RTX 5060 Ti and a bunch of computer components a month ago, and I finally made time to build it this past weekend, and I guess my timing was great because this driver's release meant that I didn't have to wait at all to get my new computer working.
