I'm not here to turn this into an X vs Wayland thing, but
… then maybe don't?
You do you, I do I. Now get off my lawn.

So weird. Wouldn't it be easier to just reuse MangoHUD, which is essentially what they already do in gamescope, and make it work on Windows, since it's, well, open source?

I cannot get over how excited I am for this. I haven't bought a game at launch-price since (maybe) Half-Life 2. But I will buy this on Day 1!

Been playing this on the Deck in bed, while my wife watches her murders (her fav show of all time law n order and she watches all the variants on a loop omgoodness) and I've been LOVING it~!!!! It's got that perfect amount of relaxation as you mentioned. The environments are truly amazing, and I love how different each location is. I'm only on the second location, but yeah, the upgrade loop keeps me going.

Highly recommended!

It's so crazy, because even though I don't really like boaty things in real life (fishing, houseboats, rafting, kayaking, etc etc etc) some of my favorite and most played games on the Deck have been boaty. Dredge, Sail Forth, Dave the Diver, this game .... So strange. Maybe the portable format just leads more to that type of game I guess.

What happens with games with a native version that Valve has set to default to Proton on Steam Deck, when I run them on desktop?

I've used 2fas auth for what I feel like is forever and ever and have loved it. It's open source, no account required, works offline, syncs backup automatically, totally free to use (optional donation), doesn't run a for profit model, etc etc etc.

I love the look of this game! Good pixel artists never fail to impress me! If you’re a fan of this art style, do check out Loco Motive too. I've started playing it recently and the animations are mighty fine!

I wonder if the "Gone Fishing" sign on the wall is a reference to the classic Amiga / Atari ST game "Gone Fish'n" with pretty much the same basic template. Probably not, but I kinda hope it is.

Yeah, just hearing the iconic music again gave me goose bumps. Guess they'll have at least one certain sale.

The only question that remains: special edition or not? OST on CD certainly sounds appealing (I'm not so old that I'd be into records)!

once I even lost all my data when the Aegis 2FA app on iOS wanted to push people towards subscription right after buying it and bungling the code. In my mind I blame the original authors as much, though, because there's no way they didn't know who they're selling it to.

Uh, what? Aegis is still very much open source and free, nobody's sold it to anybody.

@Nocifer, there's no change to how that's handled. It's the same as before, with it only affecting titles that have not gone through deck/steamos verification. Because naturally Valve want to keep that unless you manually force it individually.

Ugh. Then they should at least change the label to read accordingly. To me, and I'd be willing to bet to many other people as well, "Default compatibility tool" means what I choose here will be used by default for Steam Play in general, unless I change it manually in some specific game. Implicitly having a game switch to some other version without telling me defeats the purpose of a default. As it is now, however annoying the feature, at least the label makes sense.

@dpanter
Why would you want to disable it? Linux native titles should run as is, and Steam Deck Verified titles should automatically use the version of Proton that Valve has verified to work without issue.

That's a lot of CVEs...

Just imagine what's not been found yet. I'm not here to turn this into an X vs Wayland thing, but there's a reason why X is referred to as a walking corpse. There's nobody around to properly maintain it anymore, and all it ever sees are patches for independently discovered vulnerabilities like these. And the guy who wants to create its successor, LibreX or whatever, is a lunatic who feels it necessary to inject his ultra far-right beliefs into every tiny facet of his life. Even Linus has called him out for being a lunatic. It's time we let it die, and embrace the future. The same people were kicking and screaming when systemd replaced init.d and rc.local, and they're always going to be around to try to convince you that your best interest is to stay on antiquated systems all because they feel they're above learning something new.

I only ever use the fps counter anyway (I use other apps to monitor all the other things on the second monitor) so I won't use this, but I do absolutely love that it's coming to linux eventually. For Steam Deck I love having the expanded options just a shortcut click away.

It would have been a nicer solution to get mangohud working on Windows & Mac rather than having to reinvent the wheel. Mangohud/mangoapp has worked so well on the Deck. I guess they hit some kind of roadblock for that approach.

And that's what I meant. Also, they clearly hit a roadblock on their ground-up solution on Linux as well, so it's not really a good excuse to make a new one either.

I just get confused with the NIH mentality, when you'd think Valve would take in community effort like they have been before, instead of reinventing the wheel.

Lastly, since they want a solution that works across platforms, are they going to ditch mangohud and replace it with their new solution ? Wouldn't make sense to have then both together right ? More unnecessary confusion in the Linux world..

More capcom games on gog the better imo, especially when they had started randomly adding drm to some of their older titles on steam

Hope we get DMC5 on gog too, just picked up HD collection as wasn't a big fan of 4, with dmc3 being my favourite and first one I ever played :)

I know what I'm going to be playing today
