Some reviews are stating an Epic Games Store account and Steam account linking is required to play the game! 🙄 No. Thank you.

Technically you're blaming Techland. Dead Island 2 was in development limbo for long time after Techland departed and started developing Dying Light. Dead Island 2 was handed over to different developers (Yager and Sumo Digital) few times before Dambuster studios finished the game. AFAIK Dead Island 2 is more tightly focused and level based compared to Techland games that are more or less open world games.

That I don't know if you would actually like it. Based on the review some people hate the Epic Online requirement as it's unstable. Or just because it's from Epic. I would add annoyance of having to create Epic account. Connection problems will probably be sorted out, not sure about the other things.

I don't generally enjoy Zombie games, but I thought Dying Light was well worth finishing. And "The Following" DLC was even better than the base game. I don't remember having any major problems with the native Linux release either.

Ashlands update for Valheim has a new trailer and public test is live

It's really nice to see they're filling in so much content, although I'll almost certainly never get to see it.

I doubt I'd be able to muster the skill and tenacity to get all the way to the Ashlands. Hell, I haven't even been past the swamps. So this stuff might as well be a whole other game.

Really hoping at some point they'll get all the late game stuff finished so they can loop back and make the early game more engaging and improve quality of life for the lesser Vikings among us.

Embracer Group splitting into three companies

They missed their chance. Should have had two viable sub-companies, one continuing to be called "Embracer Group" and the second "Extender Group". And then the third company would get all the debt and money-losing studios and be called "Extinguisher Group".

Whenever there's a gambling bundle/promotion going on, you're almost guaranteed to get garbage that's altogether worth a lot less than what you paid for.

As much as I want a Deck, that's a big no from me. I'm not that foolish.

In this case, though, it's entirely fair. Console players have to rebuy the game if they bought it in early access. A massive middle finger to anyone that we're supporting the Devs.

While I'm glad that they even addressed the Deck, I'm not entirely sure why any developer or publisher has to explain that their game WONT WORK ON THE FIRST LAUNCH. Imagine they did that with any other platform and they'd get slammed immediately.

I was thinking about getting this game last year on Epic when they were offering those coupons for extra discounts but decided against it since I didn't feel like using their crappy launcher to play it. Now, I'll wait for it to be heavily discounted in the future since I'm a patient gamer with a never ending backlog

These mystery bundles are always a crap shoot just like the lottery and the most you'll get out of all of this are games that a lot of people didn't want. Good luck to anyone that wins the golden egg or Steam Deck OLED but don't expect anything more from buying these bundles

I just checked, and despite not having played this in about 4 years, it's still my number one most-played game of all time, with just over 800 hours. Noita will soon surpass it (750 hrs), but it's a real testament to "Early Access done right". Iterating and improving with each release. There have been many, many bumps along the road, particularly with the Linux support around the A13 era, but honestly, what a great game.

And I still watch Neebs Gaming today because of their series on 7 Days 2 Die. Pure gold.

Quoting: foobrewI normally avoid Early Access games but this game...I have 1,028.6 hrs in it. It's basically the game that introduced me to "open world crafting" and I always seem to come back to it. I'm not even really into zombie games but this one somehow ticks all the boxes for me. The crafting system is excellent and much more balanced now than it used to be - long gone are the days of finding an end-game automatic weapon on day one in the trash. Even though I've memorized most of the POI's at this point, it still seems to maintain just enough tension to still be exciting clearing one, especially in the early game. The overall improvements to balance and progression over the last year or two have really improved the game and breathed new life into it. If you haven't picked it up in a while, I'd recommend giving it a shot again. And if you're new to it...I envy you!

I agree, it's a good game and we've had a lot of fun in it over the years. However, I think it is in dire need of a content overhaul as once you get over that early food/water hump there's suddenly not a lot to actually do other than grind out getting schematic and skill books. The 7 day event is the only real threat and even that can be dealt with pretty easily once you work out the basics of the zombie pathing.

I understand they're probably under pressure to finally release, and they've got a good base now with the current random world gen being a marked improvement on the previous world gen results with wonky roads and weird town layouts, but it really needs those content extras they've been talking about for ages and which still seem to be a good 2 years away at best. NPC bandits to mix it up a bit alongside the zombies, more events other than the airdrops and very occasional minor horde, and just anything else that makes the world itself feel a bit more alive.

Seeing how long it is before a lot of those core features are out, I think they should have made Steam workshop a significant priority. Mods for 7 Days have played a large part in keeping the community interest and numbers up, and true workshop integration would make that significantly easier for users to manage.

If I remember correctly then the rumour-mill said that this was a planned investment by the Saudi government, so that was probably a good thing that it fell through.

and in the darkness Embrace them?

Ha, Middle-Earth as a game franchise should probably just die off. They've either made all the relevant games for it (some RTS, strategy games make the most sense), broke with the lore a lot (the Mordor games were really fun, but definitely weren't bound by any of the lore), and then we had Gollum... which should have been an awesome game, if it had been executed correctly.

Granted, I still think The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings is all that was ever needed for it.

Their board game division irritates me, since I was looking to get some of the Star Wars RPG books that Fantasy Flight games made a while back, but they're now all out of print after Embracer / Asmodee bought them.

Ahhhh one of the oldest tricks from incompetent corporate management teams.

"Everyone knows our name now and we are synonymous with layoffs, the death of games, horrible management and just general negligence in every possible way?"

"CHANGE THE NAME ...!"

"Also generate some random marketing corporate speak"

"Ladies and Gents, I think we are done here, good job all around, bonuses to everyone."

Quoting: Kuduzkehpan"Tasharen" is amazing company that cares about Linux users. i bought anything from them. Sightseer windward and so on. Love their game mechanics. i hope to get windward horizon soon.
Funny you should say that, since my impression was the exact opposite. Not only Linux though, Tasharen in general struck me as a company I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw them.

I didn't play Windward, but I bought Sightseer and noticed spurious connection attempts to some servers in Russia (the company *is* Russian AFAICT, so probably not too surprising… but I still don't like being watched every second I play) that were clearly originating from the game with no way to opt out, I stopped playing and threw it in the bin – I may even have force-removed the game from my Steam library IIRC, it's been quite a while and I honestly can't be bothered to check. I seem to remember they were also integrating RedShell, but that's purely from memory, so please take it with a grain of salt.
The reviews and forum discussions I read, and I *did* read up on Windward too, painted a bleak picture with no communication from the company, no updates or fixes for known issues, and basically the impression of 'got their money and went dark'.
I haven't looked back, feels like it must have been five years or more, and I'm surprised they still exist and even have the gall to get out a new game.

This is all from my personal experience with them of course, maybe it's different if one actually speaks Russian and is able to visit their Russian forums, I don't know, and frankly I don't care.
I for one won't touch anything from Tasharen, be it with a pole or anything else, no matter how long.

Oh, and by the way, since neither the article nor tags mention it – Windward and Sightseer were both Unity games; I'd be surprised if they didn't pick Unity again for Windward II as well. Just in case anyone cares.

"bad" ones - will leave to wither and die.
"OK" ones - will parcel off.
"good" ones - for keeping.

Or something on those lines...

Weird, I swear I'd seen that Project Zomboid had left early access, but I just confirmed it's still in it. For the most part, I've stopped buying games that are in EA, mostly due to 7 days to die... some of them along the ways have had full releases, but some of them basically just grab the money then flounder...

I bought one game (A VR RPG) where the single developer actually died after he released a really sweet demo...
