Quoting: PsychojauHi everyone. May I share another point of view with you ?

I'm working on an UE4 project. Since I've updated to 4.18.1 (I will try with last patch 18.2 but don't have big hopes), I can't even load the Editor with Vulkan (crash) or calculate the Lightmass (swarm agent crashed). okay, that's not perfect either on Windows where you can have nice BSODs when making the lightmass....
The real problem is the bad Linux support from Epic.
Do you know that we can't even use the launcher to download / compile some plugins for the editor under Gnu/Linux ? Oh, and if, as an example, you want to buy some trees or dungeon walls to an artist on the marketplace : too bad ! You can browser with your regular browser but not download ! You need the launcher !
I don't care about compiling (even if it's time consuming) but f**k ! They say they support Linux but it's not entirely true !

I understand your frustration but maybe Ark devs are not the culprit here... (or maybe they are, I don't know of course)

Thanks GamingOnLinux ;-)

Are we surprised here ? Fortnite does not even support Linux when I would have thought they would use it to test their engine on Linux.

Quoting: Ardjehe engine does not really support vulkan yet. Only vulkan on mobile, as they were contracted by Samsung to make this amazing vulkan demo to showcase the new API.
I think that was about it.
The support for DX12 probably is better than vulkan, while with vulkan they can achieve the same and have an enormous amount of targets... Especially if you realise that vulkan works starting from windows 7 and DX12 requires windows 10, and according to steam, windows 7 is the main platform
(Thanks China!).
Snail-Games is also Chinese, so they should push wildcard to support vulkan on windows 7.

How come they don't support Vulkan yet? There is a early access game called The Isle which has working Vulkan version on Linux. No issues last time i tested it (~2 months ago). Using UE4 ofc

And without any of the people we saw in Papers Please it feels too disconnected. I have no reason to care about any of those messages. Feel ... detached.

Quoting: ArdjeIf you look for instance at the CBM8050 dual floppy fileserver you can't clearly see a mechanic, just a slot... That mechanic is there, but it's hard to see... You had to push it a bit backwards and then pull it downwards, until it springs into place.
... I do acknowledge that in the game it looks clear, so you should have seen at least something.

Yeah; what they have in the game looks like the Apple Disk II's slot, with the latch completely removed.

Quoting: ArdjeHmmm, 1540/1541 needed to be pushed down.

Then with the 1541-II, they adopted the turning latch/lever; which is what I used to have.

The head loading mechanism actually looked like that in the era before the turning latch.

Pure for nostalgic reasons I want a CBM8296, and then replace the board and insides by a small odroid and an lcd panel.

If they had been known for consistently improving their performance, squashing bugs, and listening to community feedback while in early access, then you could have a point.

Instead, they released a non-free DLC pack while still in early access, doubled the price when they left early access, and don't even have a platform that runs even remotely well.

I'm using a stable release lol don't worry I'm not crazy. If they are using this version THEY are indeed in huge trouble. But I can understand... updating your engine adds new problems. Even if Epic always try to maintain some compatibility. I really hope Epic will "finish" Vulkan support so everyone can update their project.

Quoting: GuestI hopscotched through that video. Here are my thoughts.

1) They (instinctively and disturbingly) talk about OUYA and Steam Machines. YIKES!!! Why is that?!

2) Linux on Radeon. Seriously? Unless you are running Vega+plus on a (yet to be released) Linux kernel, how is this a selling point?

3) "Hundreds" of Atari retro games? I own all those—already—on multiple platforms (ibid. "Atari Vault" on Steam; "Atari Classics" on PlayStation and "Atari Flashback" console).

4) No social-media buzz- AT ALL!

5) If he looks like a liar, walks like a liar, talks like a liar and sounds like a liar, ... ;)

Slightly off-topic, but reading this I really hope, for Linux gaming in general, that Valve is up to something for a futur Steam Machine. Some custom hardware that's in the range of an Xbox One X /PS4 Pro based on AMD Ryzen + Vega graphics would be welcome.

2015-2016 has been awesome years for Linux gaming but 2017, for whatever reasons, saw a steep decline in AAA releases. As examples, where are the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Tomb Raider, Shadow of Mordor, Bioshock Infinite and Mad Max 2017 Equivalents? We have been buried under racing, rts and indie games, but the Feral radar signal that used to be filled with upcoming Linux titles now feels really empty and it's been like this for the last 8 to 10 months... If not a year.

This said, I don't mind getting 2 years old AAA titles, but now there is not much to be excited about. I got used to have one or 2 games on my backlog waiting to be played, but since Dirt Rally came to Linux, I'm just playing my old titles all over again. Where is the regular 2K, WB or Square Enix Linux release? It makes me sick to think about it but it's the first time since 2012 that I seriously consider dusting off my old Win7 installation CD and go through the painfully long process of installing it for gaming's sake (Don't get me sarted over Win10).

All I'm saying it's if I'm at this point, others might think the same way and the decline in Linux market share might not only be related to China and PUBG stuff. Not sure the absolute number of Linux users is not in decline too as convinced Linux users are looking for alternatives because new and interresting releases have become far and few between.

My hope lies in the possibility that it's a temporary setback involving Vulkan development and that new titles releases will resume after it becomes "more stable", but in the meanwhile...

Sorry that I bothered you with my first world problems. Lol!

Edit: Might be overpriced, but if it's really a mid range computer, the Ataribox could be an awesome piece of hardware to install Recalbox on. Add Steam integration to it... Just saying. :)

they are, they still have old UE4.5 version, we are limited to opengl3.3, not even talking about vulkan but we dont have GL4.5 or anything. Visuals are broken and less pretty because of the older opengl version.
they give zero fucks... There are UE4 games that are out and working with Vulkan or Opengl4.5 just fine. So its no excuse. Also i think you are running non-stable release of UE4, so problems are expected.
