Quoting: sataniceastI'm also got few wm freezes with Vulkan until i've disabled Steam overlay.

The game runs really great on my 1080 GTX with NVIDIA drivers, the difference between OpenGL and Vulkan is almost double.
So which one is the faster one for you?

Vulkan of course

That would be a reason to buy the game.

The graphics looks pretty similar to the X series. Does it also play like that?

I played almost all night without any issue at all, seems pretty solid to me (although I see plenty of issues reported around).
Vulkan is with about 30 FPS faster than OpenGL, but eventually I switched back to OpenGL since vsync on Vulkan doesn't really work.
(I also played few levels from the original Linux port of SS The First Encounter just to see the difference, and to be honest the old version is not as bad as I expected.)

Wine 2.4 released, more Direct3D command stream work towards better performance

Quoting: Avehicle7887The Obligatory question: Has anyone checked how does Witcher 3 run with 2.4?

Testing Wine staging 2.4 (just built from source, with Mesa git, AMD RX480). Things didn't improve much visually from 2.3 time:

Low settings:

Ultra settings (minus a few options like ambient occlusion and hairworks which, beware, completely hang the system this time):

It's clear, that to play the game on highest settings RX480 won't be enough to get 60fps, at least not yet. I hope Vega will be OK for it.

If only it ran at anywhere near acceptable framerates on my 3440x1440 screen, I'd love to jump on multiplayer but it's unfortunately a bit of a slideshow currently.

EDIT: Everyone, please ignore that. It was a driver issue, not the game.

Ive got the original non-HD versions of SS, but the performance in BFE was too bad for me to play on OpenGL when I tried years ago. admittedly I haven't tried since radeonsi got tons more performance. So maybe it is playable now.

But I will definitely play a Vulkan version once stable.

I bought the game and really like it as well. I don't think I will have enough time to invest into it, but it would be nice to have a gol server, especially if the new update encourage team play, which was not the case earlier.

They do, but for some weird reason it is not linked from their own website.

They get a bit closer each year, so I'd suppose so.

Quoting: Eric1212Great news, would be really good if the price of StarCitizen is going a litle bit lower...

Lower than $45? Really?

I mean, hell, it used to be just $35, but that was, like, three years ago.

Certainly, 45USD is more than 3/4 of a day of work. It's more than 3 restaurant meal, maybe 4 and if you go cheap, more than 6 meal ! If i eat at home, i could make more than 2 week of foods with this if i wanted...

I would consider a lot more an 20 USD price tag. Specially when we consider i buyed the complete bundle of Civ V on June 2014 for 16.49 USD...

A movie is two hours and costs, what, $10? $3 if you rent?

By that sort of comparison-based logic, as long as you get 4.5-15 hours of enjoyment out of the game, then it's worth it.

I bought the game first day...
sadly I'm still not able to play it.
It freezes (IN MY CASE) every time when I try to create a new galaxy.
I haven't found a solution for this issue yet.

I really... really want to play this game... :'(

Try again, the problem was fixed now.

I thoroughly recommend supporting these guys! They whipped up a Linux demo during their Kickstarter campaign, despite not initially planning to support Linux, just because us fans were asking for it in the comments and chat; not only that, but they kept it up to date and added Linux as a target platform as a result.
Also, the game is already pretty fun and definitely feels like Descent (more so than Descent: Underground in my opinion).

The game runs really well and it totally feels like an updated reincarnation of Descent. They will move to a new version of Unity so hopefully this will fix the few bug the game has and maybe even include VR for Linux.

[EDIT]Just checked the community page and they said they're looking into this issue, so disregard my post.[/EDIT]

I'm a bit confused.

I purchased the game from the serious sam fusion link here http://store.steampowered.com/app/564310/
It looked like the same thing as the one here http://store.steampowered.com/app/41000/

NVIDIA might have more open drivers in future on Linux
By Quenestil, 20 March 2017 at 8:58 pm UTC

Blob or not the end-user should not have to worry about this.

If it's a gamer, he would like to install the latest and best graphics drivers and they should work as their are supposed to do.

The problem nowadays is that NVidia's blob is not working and having an open-source driver could take workload from the company into the community.

We just have to wait and see what happens.

Whoop! First time I've played Serious Sam HD on my Linux machine (and that includes WINE). Running nice and smooth at 4K resolution. There seems to be a little save game glitch, but even so it has worked okay for me so far. I'm going to enjoy playing this. Big big fan of Serious Sam 3 BFE, which I've completed including the DLC. Looking forward to trying SS3 with Vulkan.

I guess that this is the first Vulkan title I've played under Linux as well. (Played DOOM on Vulkan under Windows - hissss!)

Quoting: bubexelOcculus running on Linux? dude, this guy is using obviously windows.

Ah, yeah. I forgot to check up on that.

I just assumed that since the demo has a Linux build it would have the same features. But yeah, I know that isn't always true. My bad.

Ye, is not your fault, is steam fault. Games appear with linux and steamvr compatible and are only windows and steamvr compatible. They should fix it or do something. There is no other way to test it than buying and testing it by yourself.

On my linux games library there is a section of steamvr games, and them appear there like you can launch them, but nothing happenns.

On my steammachine with SteamOS selecting vulkan crashes to BPM, OpenGL does work though for the few minutes I tried. Maybe this is due to SteamOS still using the 367.27 nvidia drivers on the stable branch
