Feral Interactive are teasing a new Linux port again
By WorMzy, 28 January 2017 at 1:29 am UTC Likes: 1

My guess is it's something set in France, featuring a silent protagonist (since Maggie famously never almost never talks).

I'm not sure about teh France part, but "recent" silent protagonists that spring to mind are:

* Doom Guy (I'm not sure if the most recent DOOM's protagonist is silent or not, and Doom is traditionally set on Mars/in Hell, not France..)
* "The New Kid" in South Park games (but those are owned by Ubisoft..)
* Corvo, from Dishonored (but this series is owned by Bethesda.. although the games were developed in France, so maybe that's the link here?)
* Chell/Gordon, from Portal/Half-Life (We have these series already, HL3 confirmed set in France?!?!)
* Jack/Subject Delta, from Bioshock and Bioshock 2 respectively. (No idea what the French link would be here though)
* Link, from LoZ (Nintendo probably aren't about to release their titles on Linux when they have a new console brewing)

I'd really love to see Dishonored on Linux, but I sincerely doubt Bethesda are suddenly going to start porting their titles to Linux. They've never shown any interest in us as far as I recall. None of the other games seem particularly likely either. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree with the silent protagonist thing.

A guide to crowdfunding games and the risks involved, the Linux edition

Nice article. Your approach to crowded funded games mirrors my own. I'm not against crowdfunding either (or early access), it's just that we see so many bad cases that I become vary of it.

I do want to clarify some things that people should keep in mind if Linux is a stretch goal, if so you should take the stance that it won't come to Linux. The only times I consider supporting it for Linux is when Linux is one of the supported platforms.

Another thing you should keep in mind is what engine they are using. Cryengine games have a history of not coming to Linux. Am I right when I say that most games that are ported to Linux are either in house engines, Unity or UE4?

Well, if you are enough of a masochist you can just solo it :)

There was even an achievement for solo, ironman, hardest difficulty, path of the damned mode. A few people got it.

They added full party AI like two months after launch. Tyranny also had party AI at launch.

QuoteI hope that PoE2 will enable and reward exploration much more. I still cherish BG1 for this.
Funny you should bring up BG1 and exploration as an example PoE should follow. Was playing the Enhanced Edition last year and it also has areas where if you stick you nose in without being powerful enough, you get your ass kicked (old ruins and such). Despite PoE having so much combat, you only get a small amount of experience from battle - and it's only if you're fighting something that isn't completely known in your bestiary. The main way you get XP is through quests. Exploration and interacting with things (using skills) also give you XP.

Give it another go since you don't seem to have played much, you'll realize that it has more in common than not with the Infinity Engine games.
Nope. But my response has nothing to do here. If you are still interested, PM me or create thread in forum.

Owlboy, is now available for Linux and it has completely won me over, it's also on sale
By davesunday, 27 January 2017 at 11:27 pm UTC

Just picked this one up. Can confirm that it runs surprisingly smooth with my laptops integrated graphics. Works perfectly with the ps4 controller too. I was going to wait for owlboy to get ported over to the ps vita but I figured id be dead before that happened.

Quoting: XicronicThe new Hitman game looks quite good... if it comes out with AMD support I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

If you're holding back for official support (and you can get current, as in git, mesa) don't - most stuff runs absolutely fine :)

2K, SEGA, Codemasters, Warner Bros or SquareEnix.

Anything older that 2 years is quate a low posibility. I hardly think Feral would bother to port DoW1 and CoH1; those were heavily discounted and bundled in the past. DoW3 is possible BTW...

Deus Ex games would be wonderful but Human Revolution was sold for a dollar couple years ago, so Feral would make no profit from it.

Total War games are highly likely.

I do not expect any FF games on Linux any time soon, nor I care..

Lara Croft ad Tomb Raider games would make sense due to success of the last port.

Anything from Codemasters is possible. :-D

2K seems to doing business with Aspyr rather than Feral recently in the case of Linux.

I have no expectation from WB...

They've been working on this game for.... over 4 years, maybe over 5?

And it just keeps improving, getting so much better. If you were to compare yearly releases, the leaps are really good.

Vampyr? Maggie always sucking on that pacifier like a little vampire.

It's a UE4 game so maybe that helps the porting process a bit, and also a good candidate for Feral's first Vulkan title.

There is a "parc Walt Disney" in front of the fort Bicêtre in Kremlin-Bicêtre (a communist town just south of Paris, have you guessed by the name?).
Dotnod studio is on the North of Paris, so it can't be that. There is this video game studio in the town ( https://earlybirds-studio.fr/#/ ) but I strongly doubt it is a clue.
I think the clue are: communist, vaguely French, military (Fort=stronghold in French), with magic (Maggy sound like the French pronunciation of magic)

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire announced, has crowdfunding campaign
By Shmerl, 27 January 2017 at 8:54 pm UTC

It's not really about XFS specifically. It's about developers not releasing 64-bit builds, and not making 32-bit ones properly either (they need to enable LFS, and they don't).

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_file_support

Quoting: ShmerlBacked at Premium Digital. But so far my question about whether they plan to release it in 64-bit on Linux wasn't answered. Tyranny still wasn't fixed for Large File Support after all this time and still doesn't work on XFS.

Yeah XFS is interesting. Mod support for XCOM 2 would not work until I used ext4 instead of XFS.

Could you point to another porting company that consistently does a significantly better job than Feral? I can't.
Plus, and you have to admit this, games not supporting AMD on Linux has been due to the pitiful state of AMD drivers. Now that RadeonSI actually has OpenGL 4.5 support (which came out almost 2.5 years ago, mind you), Feral has retroactively been adding official AMD support on older games. But until AMD has solid, relatively bug-free implementations of all of OpenGL and Vulkan, it's unreasonable to expect that they support AMD.

I have to say, if this does turn out to be the new Hitman, I'm not supporting it. Ignoring the "I hate always-online DRM" argument, I have satellite internet. It's naturally a bit spotty, and some things just don't work, probably thanks to the latency. I'm not going to pay for a gimped version of the game, seeing as how progression seems to be locked if you play offline. Hitman would be the perfect game for me if it weren't for that major decision.

On a lighter note, here's one of the branches.
