I can't go into details but I'm not making baby jokes anymore, had some rather upsetting news on that front earlier. :(

Good for me that I didn't sold the key.
I've had this in my list of bought games since Christmas, so 9 months later, I could have had a baby in that time if I was a Woman. ;)

The developers of Armello are facing a bit of a backlash over the DLC not coming to GOG
By Ignis, 3 September 2016 at 11:43 am UTC

Quoting: EhvisIt makes perfect sense.

If all the content is contained within the game, then the DLC is basically just a validation key. Which is DRM by definition and therefore incompatible GoG.

Or they could’ve made it so characters in a network game are limited to what both players have (and having actual content in DLCs, duh). Still better than that.

The alternative would be to actually include the content in the DLC and not allow players without the DLC to play with those that enabled it.

If they really wanted to, they could separate the content for GoG and have a mix of both options.

Sadly it looks like Shadow Warrior 2 won't be a day-1 Linux release
By Xpander, 3 September 2016 at 10:15 am UTC

Quoting: m2mg2It may have been somewhat Fedora specific, or if you played somewhat recently it may have been fixed. It was ~2 years ago when I played it. I found the bad fix of killing pulse audio in a virtual terminal from someone through a google search so I was definitely not the only one.

i played it at launch day and then after the visuals/performance upgrade patch. However i use usb soundcard, if that makes difference.

In my steam recommended games list , shadow warrior 2 appear. And it's so strange since it have a linux filter. Is first time a game only for windows appear on that list. It's a bit confusing.

Of course not, there is no DirectX 11 support yet.

If you want Direct3D command stream, aka csmt, it's available in wine-staging.

QuoteAn email I got from the devs:

"Hi Kristian,

We closely monitor who engages with Armello and it's no longer viable for us to continuously update the DRM Free version of Armello. The game will continue to exist in it's current state and we're proud of how far we've been able to take it.

As online services are required to verify if any given player has access to the DLC heroes, it's not compatible with the DRM-Free version of Armello.

Thanks,

Lisy Kane
Producer"

This doesn't make sense at all.

They can have a switch in the code for "HasDLC" and check that switch both on their own copy and on the copy of the players they play with (since they have a network connection).

My guess is that they are using a Steam-specific library (Steamworks?) to distribute the DLC which obviously is not in their GoG version. They just don't want to invest the time to build a non-Steam-specific distribution functionality into the DRM-free version of the game.

It's not like you can use the DLC on it's own, they're just being a bit silly thinking people will steal it without first stealing the main game, I mean if they're that worried about people stealing it they might as well remove the base game from sale as well.

The Steam Hardware Survey for August 2016 shows Linux has grown again

Quoting: MohandevirWe have to remember that, when added together, these statistic "anomalies" sent us from 1.3% to .83%, during the "Windows10 rush", so there must be something. :)
That something was people updating to Windows 10 & having it trigger the survey the first time they started steam after the update, it's still not accurate & never will be till EVERYONE does it all at once.

The latest response from CD Project Red (not GOG) was that the issue is the lack of talent, as everyone is focused on Cyberpunk.

This means the only chance is a dedicated porting developer. Feral, Aspyr, are you there?

0.02 monthly increase, in two years we will hit 1% at this rate, yahoo!

0.02 at 0.83 is ca. 2.5% monthly growth. If we keep this growth rate (i.e. 2.5% a month), we will hit 1% in 9 months though.

Of course, there are many unknowns. When will SteamOS be finally included? What impact it would have if it was included? Is there a chance for some critical mass that would accelerate the growth if exceeded? Is there a positive feedback loop worth talking about, i.e. developers more likely to publish for Linux depending on the market share of Linux? Probably not, as it makes little difference if it's 0.8% or 1.8% - it's still miniscule - but perhaps if we crossed 1%, we would see more dedicated porting devs like Feral or Aspyr.

NB, as I no longer play games on Debian, only on SteamOS, I could be a lost Linux user in these stats :)

Blessings of Tux the Mighty be upon you for sharing this!! I haven't checked if it works yet on my Ubuntu rig yet, but just havng someone confirm that it is possible warrants dancing in a circle singing, "Yeah!! Yeah!! Uh-Huh!! Linux rocks!! Oh Yeah!!" Or similar.

I can't believe Ubuntuneans haven't been more aggressively working on a fix for this. Or that I've not been able to come across said aggression if they have.
Huh? I wrote about that specfici issue on Ubuntu ages ago: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/steam-controller-on-ubuntu-a-tweak-you-need-to-do.6081

They fixed it ages ago, the problem is now it seems a firmware update has messed with the wireless dongle.

Wow... From the comments here, it looks like most of us are just gonna pack up the picket signs and throw in the towel. That's it? That's how little willpower we have as "gamers" and "Linux users", that we are willing to be defeated and emotionally distraught every time some scumbag publisher or studio stands us up?

Screw them! If they are so willing to ignore their potential customers, then they and their games are worth neither our time nor our effort. Let's move forward, people! On to greener pastures, and possibly kinder horizons. I for one choose to stand strong! I, for one, will not let a handful of cancelled or permanently delayed games stop me from enjoying what is available already, and I won't let them stop me from enjoying what is to come.

For shame!

Good news, but let's see if it really happens - too much delay, too much broken promises for me...

"Also, this update will introduce their micro-transaction crate/key model."

This is indeed a reason not to play or support the game (for me, of course), but because I own it anyway (Steam Controller) I'll test it. Why not more paid DLCs? Why a random, lottery like model? I really dislike it - this is a bad kind of "low level psychology". I don't see any benefits. Do you like crate/keys - and if, why?

I don't think they are crying about not selling to the few Linux users who might buy this. I have however bought it, but not paying for DLC. Looks like we will need to wait for WINE to have DX11 support, which will be around the same time when CyberPunk 2077-II comes out :(

IMO not having the DLC on GOG is just going to promote piracy, which is what they are trying to prevent in the first place "by having DRM in their DLC".

as long as Linux keeps trending on marketshare like has the last couple of months it may not be that long before Linux is at least on par with OSX. honestly I'd just be happy to see Windows start to drop considerably and OSX/iOS and Linux/Android drive the future of business, industry and gaming. it's a pipedream, but one can dream :)

I was so looking forward to play this with my new shiny GTX 1070

ohh well, at least we can hope that the port will be top quality like the first one

The port was generally good, except for a pretty major pulse audio bug that completely froze the game at almost every video until I switched to a virtual terminal and killed pulse audio. Don't know if they ever fixed that. Hopefully they can do even better since it was planned from the start. I just hope they are at least working on it, they do have at least one Linux engineer; Godlewski.

never experienced this. And i played 6 hours straight with 1 sitting.

It may have been somewhat Fedora specific, or if you played somewhat recently it may have been fixed. It was ~2 years ago when I played it. I found the bad fix of killing pulse audio in a virtual terminal from someone through a google search so I was definitely not the only one.

Yeah, lots of bad news. But also surprises, like Dead Island Riptide and Two Worlds II on the Way. I think there are a couple about to hit I never thought would make it (Depth Charge). A lot of people making promises they can't keep but also some that keep their mouths shut and deliver out of the blue. Honestly I had all but given up on Rocket League.
