News - Stellar Blade works well on Linux, SteamOS / Steam Deck

You haven't seen blurry until you've seen Expedition 33 on the Steam Deck preset. It's absolutely atrocious and disabling the SD lock is a must for the game to look somewhat presentable.
This, otoh, runs absolutely beautifully at 40 fps. One sore point is texture quality, it's very, very low and no apparent way to change it. HDR looks very nice. I was getting around 2 hrs battery life to Liam's one, must be the OLED talking.
The game has its flaws, but is very solid in general, you're in for a good time there, Liam.

It's weird that they're delaying it, because Godot's Linux support is first-class, but I'm guessing it's because they're not used to Godot yet, and they don't want to give their developers false hope.

I haven't been on Steam Deck recently, but I recently just finished Black Mesa and replayed Deltarune in time for chapters 3 and 4. Now, I'm on the last third of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which I can hopefully finish soon.

It's a shame that the default preset is so blurry, but I'm glad that Steam Decks can now play it! I also recently heard that the developer has been fighting the region block that Sony's been applying to their games.

This wine version in my case using d3d7 games still remain unplayable, very low performance, i have some hopes because in this version them add this:
EGL library support available to all graphics drivers.
but in practice:

**recent wine is compiled using this: ./configure --enable-archs=i386,x86_64

I have been playing some Neverwinter Nights 2. I have merged the Tome of Battle, Kaedrin's PRC Pack, and Races of Faerun mods and have played through the Original Campaign, Sean Maxhell SoulPath, Tomoachan, Asylum 1 and 2, and a few more modules. Currently playing through Dark Waters, but unfortunately the Tome of Battle additions don't really seem to work with it.

I don't play always-online games, which automatically solves that problem for me. Really, on average these games don't last past a couple years. You have exceptions like Fortnite and other bigger ones which end up lasting longer but they're all ticking time bombs
If the game is offline playable, that is, offers private servers and/or LAN modes, that automatically avoids the problem because server hosts can decide not to use anti-cheat and so Linux communities can form.
But to each their own. I think this will stay a reality forever, you can't both have a user-friendly OS and an OS that remote parties can trust you probably didn't cheat on. As long as these publishers offer only official servers in an online-only game that is hyper-competitive and tries to protect its image of not hosting cheaters, this will be the case.

I've been running SteamOS on my AMD based PC (Ryzen 5 3600 - RX 6600) for the last couple of months. Its perfect, for my part.
Just create the Steam recovery image following Valve's instructions and boot your pc on this usb drive. Pretty straightforward.

News - SteamOS massively beats Windows on the Legion Go S

I am with GNU/Linux (OpenSUSE) nearly 20 year and always it was just better. I remember how people wonder how I write so fast in IM programs. I do investigation and discovered they write sentences in MS Word firstly and next copy and paste this in chat window. And guess? They must switch to Word and in the same time I wrote next sentences, so they mind just blows. I use IM program dedicated to GNU/Linux and use bult-in dictionary. Look how many thinks MS stolen and people are excited, like KDEConnect. Thinks I was using on Linux long time ago are introduced in Windows and people gets excited. I am not sure if I should cry or laugh. And I read big headlines: "MS create revolution!". I read article and say: really..?
Linux was always better for desktop, but market do not care about it, because MS was more popular. And there many fud and lies around it. People still telling wrong sentences, just like: „I bought Windows, because MS should pay me millions of dollars if Windows destroy my data or hardware!”. I again say: really... (people do not read agreements and eat some fud created by MS trolls and lie telling million of times becomes truth)?
I only wonder if Legion GO uses SteamOS=1 environment variable. But if not, I still will not tell people switch to Linux, because MS create one's product with some psychological tricks and spreads fud, so people probably would not switch as they tend doing currently.

What have you been playing recently? On the Deck this past month I've been playing Death's Door, Rosewater and Old Skies. I also did some casual deliveries in Death Stranding. Having finally got through Half Life 2 (on the desktop) I had a hankering to replay Wolfenstein, so I've just started that on the Deck.

I just hope Gaijin doesn't drop the support for other titles too. I'm playing War Thunder actively and also spent some money in it. It's the one title that I am regularly playing with my Windows friends. I really don't like dual booting anymore.
It's sad when existing mature games are dropping Linux and one of your favorite titles that worked just fine go unplayable (like Battlefield V).

This is what I want to know... I currently run Pop!_OS on an ancient laptop for use as a home theater PC (I have it connected to a projector and everything) - but I hope to replace that at some point in the medium-term future,
If I could replace said laptop with something that it capable of also running games to an acceptable standard, SteamOS would logically be a much better alternative to Pop!_OS.

Handhelds are great, but can this be installed on a gaming PC for a "Steam Machine" living room experience?

I am well past the phase of dual booting just for a few games .. sorry if your game doesn't support Linux and most certainly to have such a anti-Linux take I will ignore your game.. No game is worth me having Winblows on my PC anymore even though couple games I miss alot and will play again if they ever enable their anti-cheat for Linux.

Hasn't anyone ever heard of mounts?
Doesn't, like, every MMORPG have a ground or flying mount?
You know how many I had and how often I've flown around on windriders, dragons, and all kinds of other animals and machines in WoW or other games? Don't even tell me activision-blizzard paid nintendo for this feature. 🙄

News - World of Goo 2 gets a rough level editor and Steam Workshop
By ElectricPrism, 31 May 2025 at 7:10 pm UTC
By ElectricPrism, 31 May 2025 at 7:10 pm UTC
The first 1/3 of the game is basically World of Goo 1 which some have criticized as not innovative enough to keep them hooked.
The second 2/3 of the game is innovative with new goos.
The last 3/3 of the game I have been told is insufferably where a completely new art style appears in unskippable scenes where the developer literally appears in what feels like tone deaf harassment.
The level editor sounds cool.
It would be nice if the developer made ALL cut-scenes skippable or a modder did.
It's a decent to good game, but the tone shift in Act 3 of 3 has made people I know IRL rage.
Also the "lets go shopping ... sustainably" in the intro comes off as preachy. It's got at least a wart or two.

Anyone able to use it on regular desktop? Installs fine on SteamDeck and runs excellent, on desktop though I'm able to install it but hangs at the point where is supposed to show you the pin.
Edit:
I saw the installer checking for the OS used, so I spoofed it with Steamos, reinstall etc, but the login issues remained. Turns out though, you can check the logs and manually opening the auth link is supposed to be given and finally log in. At this point the app seems to be working just fine, until you try to launch a game :) ...when it fails again when checking the connection with the cloud servers.
Edit#2: Sigh...I wish I'd seen this sooner:
https://gist.github.com/Mihitoko/bd76340e56e78ec972c8a1365abb0d55
Works just fine.
