Tomes of Mephistopheles gameplay
By , 15 January 2012 at 4:43 pm UTC

Hmm.. The video doesn't show up here :/

Initially, in alpha, we will give bombs to player. As development goes on, we will add crafting system for several pieces of gear. Most likely the ordinary bombs can be found by looting chests and picking 'em up from the dead enemies.

I don't understand why people think breaching the walls is a main mechanics of the game :)

Desura adds free adventure games!

Desura adds free adventure games!
By Hamish, 13 January 2012 at 7:16 pm UTC

It should be noted that some of these titles had already made their way to distro repositories (at least on Fedora) but this is probably a better fit I think. :)

Still, is Desura slowly also going to become the GoG of Linux?

Quoting: "Bestia, post: 3098"You can already see it with one of the official Unity3D demos AngryBots:

Tried the flash version and was nicely surprised. I just had to click on the flash window because of noscript, but did not have to allow any additional scripts.
It ran quite well while in the initial area outside, then slowed down a bit once inside but remained playable. I managed to get to the end of the demo.
But that's on a pretty good machine. Considering the level of graphics, a game like this should run smoothly on even older machines...
2012: bundle of all previous bundles with minimum price? Humble shop? Humble steam/desura-like client?
Well done KIAaze you time travelling monkey!

Well the bundle shop is something I have desired ever since I missed the bundle with Braid and was unable to buy it from anywhere.
So I am looking forward to it. :)
With Desura, Gameolith, Indivania, etc, things keep looking better.
Hopefully "AAA games" will follow as well...

Hey, maybe there is some cause->effect correlation in my predictions. Let me try again:
2013: Source engine, Starcraft 1+2 engines, all Metal Gear Solid, Deus Ex, Fallout, Morrowind, Bioshock, etc games ported to GNU/Linux. :p

Quoting: "Bestia, post: 3103"That's because Native Client isn't enabled by default. You have to go to chrome://flags (typed that in address bar) then enable plugin and restart browser with button that will appear on the bottom of that page.

You can also check if your system is capable of hardware rendering by going to chrome://gpu.

well, it all sounds sweet in theory, but for the moment, it's not what people believe it could be one day. NaCl has been around for a loooong time. As I recall, Nexuiz was port into NaCl and it ran in the browser way back then. And so far, Chrome is the only browser to support NaCl. So as years have passed, Mozilla didn't bother with it. It's safe to assume NaCl will remain exclusive Chrome feature for quite a while.

For the moment yes, but is an open standard and fully free software, so there is nothing limiting it from being implemented in other browsers.

And the advantage is that you can develop for one platform (native client), meaning you can play it like an online game from any supported system, but at the same time it can access the system libraries and hardware in a native fashion, meaning you do not have the associated problems that online games often have.

Well, Flash Unity on Linux is junk :(

Tomes of Mephistopheles development version has 2048^2 uncompressed world textures (diffuse, gloss, normal map, offset map and glow map) and high polygonal assets. It loads twice faster than that demo. And then ToM runs in HD with deferred lighting and real-time lights smoothly vs how Angry Bots run in the browser - like a slide show.

So far, Darkplaces vs Unity on Linux as 1:0

P.S. I am on Ubuntu 11.10 with latest FF browser

True, but support for all of those except Steam has been declining from bundle to bundle. At least for Desura we know its not for lack of them wanting to be a part of it...

Ah didnt know what you where replying to yes that would be very bad, i doubt it will though Desura i think will still be king. Since they have moddb and indiedb they are already a big name.

I can't recall if it was a tweet or a comment on the Wolfire blog, but I believe there was mention of a combined download page being worked on.

In case you're not aware, Google has indexed a number of Humble Store URLs. A search for site:http://humblebundle.com/store will reveal them (I believe that's how word got out - it's how I found them at least). Good luck with the project. It will be interesting to see which aspects of the Humble Bundle promotions carry across (charity support, Linux, MacOS and Windows support, etc.).

I dunno about this. Personally, I'm sticking with Desura. There are already a handful of web stores that feature Linux games, such as Gamolith and Indivania. Some people like to purchase games that way, and I think it just comes down to preference, but I like the idea of having a client to manage everything. I think this is why Steam is so popular on Windows, despite the million other game stores out there. I think there is more than enough room for both types of business models to co-exist. I seem to remember one developer saying that his sales on Desura had no negative effect on his direct website sales, and I think it makes sense.

There is one thing that troubles me about the Humble Store though. There has been a lot of hinting that the HIB guys are asking for exclusivity from developers, which I think is pretty rotten if true. A lot of developers that have taken part in recent bundles have been strangely silent when asked about other distribution methods.
