Quoting: cprnSeriously... Where's that survey? How do I fill it?
We do a front page article dedicated to telling people when it's open every month, it also has a box when it's open linking to it above the news every month when it's open just like we have the link to the results post right now.

It's Croteam being themselves, I'm sure he demanded GDC put that as his title :P

Do we need to revert the engine tweaks?
Always advisable to do after a patch, and verify contents to make sure you have the correct files from the new patch.

Our Linux & SteamOS gamer survey results for January 2016

Article has be re-done, please re-check folks.

Feds has done some great work re-doing the graphs, the Months on the graphs now match the correct month for the Data not the month we present it (so it's accurate now).

QuoteI'm now leaving out the old/jokey left in question about what type of drivers people are using on Intel, as there's only one type.

:'(

Hah, sorry! :)

Quoting: TheBossI'm going to look at ways to re-do the survey and make it more accurate, unsure how right now. I am thinking possibly re-starting it and getting fresh data then from day-1. A hopefully easier option will be to get Feds who does the graphs to bump all the data back a month to show it correctly.

If you would do a whole new setup, I wonder if it should be more about gaming and less about Linux. E. g. I don't care a cent if people changed their distro last month (and I really wonder if that many do or if that many don't understand the question). I'd be more interested in say if they use a controller or a wheel, or what their most interesting game of the month was, or how much time they use for playing, ...
Very good comment, I will see what I can do. I also think the distro-hopping question really isn't needed at all for a gaming focused survey.

Quoting: GuestLinux games bought (and related) graph(s) are interesting. I guess it coincides with xcom2.

How? XCOM 2 wasn't available in january.

Ah... title is wrong?

The results are from February, but the answers are for January data if that makes sense.

Wasn't my choice, this just how it was setup originally and I took over.

Dying Light patch released

For those interested, I found the issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/46sske/cities_skylines_crashing_on_launch/d07ljf9

It also affects other games. Looks like it's going to be an issue for newer/more up to date distributions.

Looks like Dota 2 with Vulkan isn't too far away

Quoting: tuubiThis also highlights the fact that although Croteam's code might be slow right now, Nvidia's Vulkan driver is unlikely to be well optimized at this point either. I guess it's pretty hard to optimize a driver until there are real world apps/games using the API to test with. Isolated, synthetic tests are unlikely to reflect real world use cases. I'm sure all the big IHV's will get there eventually, and relatively quickly due to Vulkan's design.

I don't think we can really assume that the driver is responsible for the performance issues, especially since Vulkan moves a lot of that responsibility out of the driver. Hell it might not even be the game engine, for all we know the shader compiler could be affecting the performance too. There's no point in pinning the blame on anyone at this point because nearly every part of the pipeline is still rough around the edges and there's still a lot of work to be done.

Croteam clearly stated they aren't doing any multithreading in Vulkan at the moment, which would be a reason why Talos with Vulkan is slow.

Looks like Evolve might still come to Linux & SteamOS

Quoting: TheBossSkins, skins people. It doesn't affect gameplay in ANY way. How can people even remotely get annoyed by that?
It's not just skins. Hunters and monsters are available as DLC, too and they definitely impact the gameplay.

And it's no wonder that people get upset about DLC if you're looking at the prices [30 €/$ for the base game -> 80 €/$ including the important DLCs…]

I was replying directly to Scaines comment on the skins.

As for DLC characters, so what? It's not like they have an advantage, it's all fairly balanced gameplay wise.

Would you rather they split the community with map packs?
