That reminds of that one time when I wrote a little script for myself to rename photos based on exif data, and a friend wanted me to share it, so I did, and he used it in a slightly different way and lost a bunch of photos. Sharing is caring, but trust no one.

This was fixed some time ago.

Wow, that's a welcome change! I didn't think they would implement it, as it opens Steam to a lot of abuse by "families". Hopefully they don't do a 180° after a while, like Netflix did - and also hopefully people won't simply abuse it...

After some more consideration, focusing on the name/wording ("initiative") and the (short) time of stated preparations, I think it might be some kind of certification process that will slap "III" badge on the games considered to be "AAA" quality but made by indie developers, as a way of distinguishing them from the indie crowd (and it became a crowdy space indeed).

Quoting: JuliusSteam shop alternative for Indie games? Would explain why there are sooo many of them involved.
There's itch.io, you can't get more indie than that.
But ok, let's assume you're right, and by III they imply there will be only the best indie games (like AAA from big studios).
Don't we already have gog and epic who curate games? Or humble to some extent?
So, like GOG and Epic minus the most popular (AAA) games? Sounds like a plan.
They probably think they can save big on commissions, without thinking much of the operational costs.
Eh... we'll see.

A related website is: https://evilempirestudio.com/ [External Link] (found in the source code of the website)
"Evil Empire is a “triple I” development studio."

So just another publisher I guess. Or an "indie merger" maybe. I'm not holding my breath.

"The downside to how EA have done it; you have to buy them all in one big bundle."

It seems to be possible to purchase individual titles using steamdb (you might need the extension installed or maybe just be logged in through steam, I'm not sure, I have the extension), for example if you only want Generals:
- go to https://steamdb.info/sub/799323/ [External Link] and click "Add to cart"
- go back to steam, you should see it in your cart
- it will display "There was a problem displaying this item; p is undefined" but disregard it and click "Continue to payment".
I haven't tested it any further than the last payment step, but it seems possible.
